I wish there was more of the Mandarin/Trevor. He was easily the most entertaining thing in the movie; I especially loved his little speech on fortune cookies.

It definitely felt different than IM1+2, and despite the many nods to the Avengers at times strangely disconnected from the rest of the MCU. I wondered how they would go back to the solo movies post Avengers, and after watching IM3 I still don't quite know. The lack of SHIELD was... disturbing, given the events and persons involved - you'd suspect an organisation like that would be successfully investigating ex-soldiers exploding all around the country and terrorist threats against the president of the USA being broadcast from a mansion in Miami. I hope we'll get an explanation for this in the following movies...
Ah well, the movie. All around solid performances, with my personal highlight being the hilarious Ben Kingsley! I get why folks who care about the comics are pissed off, but for me the decoy Mandarin worked. Not quite sure what the point of Guy Pearce going all "I. AM. THE MANDARIN!" in the end was, and I wished they'd elegantly tied the whole Mandarin thing together with the 10 RIngs they set up in IM1. Hm, somehow every Iron Man movie manages to underuse a favourite actor of mine in a villain role - Bridges, Rockwell, Pearce...
Well, everything about the movie was okay, nothing truly great, but also nothing truly bad. An interesting start for Marvel's Phase 2, and I've always been more intrigued how Thor and Cap will perform in their respective second solo appearance anyways - Thor was my surprise Phase 1 disappointment, while Cap was a rather pleasant surprise.
Argh, I'm rambling without much sense now, I should go to sleep. Final thoughts: 3D made the film worse, as usual, and for some reason I actually didn't hate the kid.

I find it to be a good movie. I find Iron Man 1 to be the best of the films still, but I did enjoy Iron Man 3.
We should start saying that Iron Man 3 is the best Christmas movie of all time! Lol.
It was. Kinda wondered why the released it in Summer. Maybe the Christmas thing is for DVD/BluRay/Rental sales.
My hopes picked up for Capt. America when I heard it was the same director that filmed Rocketeer.TheRealJayDee wrote...

But, still, I liked having Ben Kingsley as a fake villain, but I agree that Guy Pierce caught a case of the "crazy-evil-itis" at the end, which made his character more flat than it could have been. But I did like the fact that it was just a corporate cover up to make money. That seemed to resonate more with me as a brilliant plan than just random fanatical terrorism.
The real problem is that Guy Pearce is supposed to be this kind of pathetic loser while pitching AIM in 1999. But, somehow, he becomes this well put toghether mastermind because, apparently, plot, and then is kind of nuts about everything. Like the VPs goal, which is apparently because his daughter (or grandaughter) is an amputee.
The movie had a lot of fantastic elements that just didn't seem to come toghether in the end for me.

I can buy that. The movies Shane Black has directed in the past DEFINITELY come through here. This is a comic book/super hero Lethal Weapon. And that's not bad, necessarily. But it is different.
There were lots of little threads that were introduced and felt like they should have been featured even more or barely brought into it. And the lack of connectivity to the MCU felt a little weird, as well. The movie almost makes more sense occurring before The Avengers, not after it.
But that might be the problem with giving a huge IP to someone who has only directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang? If they keep him on for the next one, there is going to be a whole list of things to learn from on this.

I only really had an issue with AIM, in that it wasn't built up nearly enough. It was referenced, it was in the background, and then suddenly it's all-important! Not bad for a think tank seemingly made up one CEO, one "botanist," a couple of technicians, a dozen thugs, and tons of experiment subjects. And no other contracts, investors/backers, or headquarters, despite the potentials for Extremis and that awesome 3-D holography thing! And what was Maya's motivation over the last 13 years???
So yeah, AIM as a "character" needed the same kind of fleshing out that The Mandarin got through his broadcasts and scenes.

It was all right in 3D. Nothing special.spirosz wrote...
How was it in 3D? I stay away from 3D adaptions unless the film itself is basing it's development with 3D in mind, not tacked on.

I liked the film myself, and loved the twist because I generally didn't see it coming, and with everything we've seen, or hadn't seen in the film, of the manderian up to the twist, I think it all came together and made sense.
I also liked the villian, mainly because his mannerism never changed despite being revealed and he didn't pull a 180 character personality shift or anything. And I honestly liked that, only because it made me feel he was a villian who was in complete control enough to need no mask for himself.
Also unlike Iron Man 2 and it's stupid hammer plot, this stories evil orginization was actually able to do things that made them seem worthy of being an evil orginization, instead of a barley functioning comedic relief group for russian laserwhips to get his armor.

Kingsley was the perfect actor to be the Mandarin villain, not some crap that they pulled in the movie

I found it a bit boring to be honest. It kind of just felt like filler, which I suppose it was for Avengers 2. But still, there was a decided lack of Iron Man action.
Less than Iron Man 2?
Also, whether you find the movie good or bad, you know what they say: "Theatricality and Deception are powerful agents."

By that logic every movie before Avengers 2 is a filler
