Corporations by definition need to make money. They are not our "friends" or something, they just exist to provide us with a product. That's not a problem.
What matters is the value of their products.
DRM, Day1 DLC cut from the main game, always online etc. bring down the value of the product.
CDPR until now offers products that made the consumer feel appreciated, that he made a good buy,
that he got value for his money. Some other companies don't.

They're great at marketing, I'll give them that.

And they produce good games with free DLC.

I haven't been able to play either of The Witcher games so thats a matter of opinion, as for the free dlc from what I understand the free dlc for TW2 didn't exactly amount to much.

The initial free DLC added a handful of side quests but the Enhanced Edition was substantial with it's inclusion of (much needed) major quests for Act 3 and other content.

I don't buy it, at all.

What they're saying is good, but it's just words, nothing more. Like any politician, they will say anything and promise anything to get your sale, or vote, or sign of support, before completely going back on their word.

I'll wait till they come out with Cyberpunk and see how long they keep singing their tune.

With CD Projekt RED it's not only words though, they always back up their words with actions. So far they've always done so and there is no reason to believe they will stop doing so now. The Witcher 2 has NO DRM, a free expansion pack with new and extended endings, new characters, more quests and new features, and it's ALL FOR FREE. That's how CDPR rolls. They're a great company and pretty much the only video-game company left who I truly trust.

All I'm saying is all of the praise you guys are giving CDPR is praise that you were giving BW in 07. Things change fast. CDPR knows exactly the right things to say to get fans to rally behind them.

Yes, we praised BioWare in 2007, but then they got bought EA. That's when things changed fast.

Let's pray CDPR never ever gets bought by EA, ever.

CDPR is saying TW3 will ship without DRM this time, which is a first. The other two games had to have DRM patched out. Still, a slow news day at GS.

I think the worst thing in the gaming industry is making an awesome game where your choices matter....and not letting you create your own character.

I wish I could play witcher, but because I am forced to play boringgeralt I can't.

Maybe with their new cyberpunk thing we can make our own characters.

boringgeralt is more interesting then Shepard and Hawke combined.
Also you must really hate 90% of games where you play as established character.

And that is your opinion on the matter.
Shepard? Boring as hell (at least in ME3) to the point of annoying. Hawke? Much more enjoyable than Geralt.

What of it?
Personally I dislike every game with a boring established character. I believe Geralt to be such.

Hawke shows less emotion then broken glass and makes Marcus Fenix look like Shakespeare inspired character.

Shepard was a static brick in ME1/2 and BioWare tried to fix this is ME3 but ended up taking control away from players, not that I mind, I prefer established characters like Adam Jenson and Geralt, it means that devs can concentrate on more important things, like the story itself.

That's not the point (even though that's good enough for me: I don't want Hawke to show any emotion if I can't have a say in that). I actually dislike Geralt as a character: there is no way I'm gonna be able to (role?)play as him for more than an hour, same as Shepard, parashep is simply an annoying emotional wreck, reneshep is just an idiot.

As for the topic at hand, gotta agree with the skeptics. Trusting any company/corporation and thinking they are doing anything for you and not for profit is drama waiting to happen.

i mostly agree with capitalism, but big smelly corporation that control everything is a disease. it's destroy creativity and turn brilliant developer into slaves labors so a few ass wipe in a nice suit can pimp some profit out of everything.

Studio les CD projeckt is the last bastion of hope.. Good thing they're in Europe. Away from America and from ... guess who. :P.

Those two things aren't mutually exclusive you know. In fact, they are pretty much one and the same. Most companies have forgotten that, but CDPR hasn't.

Meh. It's hard to get excited about their policies when I don't like their games.

I have no interest in a company that is not inclusive of choice in roleplay. When I have to play a completely established character right down to appearance and gender, then it ceases to be an RPG to me. As far as I'm concerned, The Witcher series of games is an (erotic) adventure tale featuring Geralt and his journey, and I have zero interest in that.

If CDPR ever gets around to making an RPG with character choice and customization then I may give them another try. Until that day, no thanks.

Still, I tend to be careful not to idolize them as I've seen many people do on the Internet.
You're right, CDPR's customer policy has been very... agreeable, for lack of a better word, but it takes nothing for people to go all "zomg wat they ruined my dream, i'll never touch another of their products! this is unacceptable!" for just the tiniest little thing that didn't go as they expected. The nerve they had to just behave like a corporation and destroy my mental image of them!

They are no saint, they're basically exploiting the general situation of distrust towards major companies and the fact that most of them treat their customers like no more than breathing wallets (which is commendable, I'll reiterate), but they're not doing it because they love you or because they saw the light or something.

I too can't play the Witcher because I don't like Geralt. I really did try too. I'm hoping that Cyberpunk either gives a character I like or it lets us make our own.

CP 2077 will allow for full character customization, including both genders and multiple classes.

That certainly sounds more appealing. I'll be interested to see what they do with it, and whether or not it will actually be something I want to buy/play.

Still couldn't they have come up with a jazzier name than Cyber Punk 2077? Sounds like a crappy summer blockbuster.

It's a Polish company. Maybe in Poland something like that sounds super cool?

It's based on the original PnP game of the same name, which was created in the late 80's. Just like TW, they are trying to stay true to the source material. It's meant to sound retro, and to be a distillation of what Cyberpunk started out as. Think William Gibson and Blade Runner. DnD wasn't as popular in Poland back then, but Pondsmith's CP 2020 was very popular. Most of the team at CDPR is familiar with it.
