You can rush through the first. No need to do everything. But you really do need to finish it at least at 50.

Can't make level sixty in two playthroughs even with dlc and every quest. 59-60 takes a playthrough on its own. You're going to have to be a big cheater.

I rushed my first one as well and had to do a third to reach 60.

Only 2 side quests? *sighs* If you took your time and went the completionist route it's probable you could have made level 60 by the end of your second playthrough. Doing everything only takes like a little over 32 hours. Were either of those 2 side quests related to Garrus, Wrex, or Tali? Seriously, helping them would obviously be beneficial carrying over into ME2. Mass Effect was MADE to be completed 100 percent. Is the reason you rushed through because you "don't like wasting time talking to characters" if you can avoid it?

Actually this is wrong. As long as you have to XP boosting achievements, and use the correct XP-maxing techniques, it is totally doable. I have done it multiple times.

Even if you don't have every booster achievement, adding in the DLC can sometimes get you over the hump.

In fact, depending on your own speed, it may be even less. I can  do two back to back playthroughs on Insanity in about 42 hours. Now everone has their own paces, but it's definetely not impossible.

No, actually. I love games like this. I had no idea Mass Effect was such a gem, that's why.
I got it off steam sale for $5 because I was bored and a friend recommended it. I heard of the game but never had any idea what it was.
I knew there were some side quests but I just decided to play it already and not bother and find out what's up. Before I knew it, I was sitting in my chair motionless while watching the ending cutscene.

So then that's when I REALLY got into it. I just finished beating the game between my last post and this post, 2nd time, and I got a slightly different ending - I used epic charm skills on Saren, those of you who did should know what I mean. A shockwave ran through my body when I got the whole completely different outcome that I really did not expect. I ended up being amazed with this game more the 2nd time than the first.
I cheated just before you enter the council room. It was the last point where I could, so I played until then and I was still level 57 so I just consoled myself to level 60. I hope that's alright. I don't seem to have too much of a problem with it.
I did however make backups before I went to Ilos, and before I cheated. So in any case, I'm all good.

This game is amazing. I'm still shocked from what happened, even though I beat the game once earlier.

Mass Effect 2 better be emotionally driven like this too. So far it only seems like the "dark side" of the universe filled with completely assholic people who hate everything. That's cool, but there's gotta be some deep as hell emotions at one point.

Peace guys, I'm out. it's 3 AM here, but man, this game Rocks. <3

I am always pure Paragon, so I got the charm Saren ending every time. I love it.

And yes, you should be fine. It's good that you saved, just in case. The import system isn't being tested with cheats, but I can't imagine why it wouldn't work.

You get different bonuses for being level 40, 50, and 60. So For being level 56 you would get the level 50 bonus. It won't be as big as level 60, but you still get something for your troubles. This affects amount of free skill points you have in the beginning.

You can milk the Citadel a little. Every hal way, wait at the end for Juggernauts to spawn. Also don't blow up the Geth ship until it stops dropping Geth. I did that when I was 59 and hal like 20000 more EXP and level up at the first Saren encounter.

I doubt you'll get to 60 if you started at 38 though, sorry.

I could swear I managed to get to level 53 on a single playthrough in ME1. It was also my first game ever too. Or am I just remembering wrong?

nah your not wrong, I just finsihed what I believe to be my last ME1 run before ME2.

I managed to get to level 56 in one playthroughm and im sure you can manage level 57 or 58 in playthrough aswell if you:

Have both DLC (I only have Bring Down the Sky)

Never make one single kill in Mako (kill every single thresher on foot)

Mine every single metal in the game (check the ME wiki page for their places)

Not sure but I believe you get more xp for picking fights rather then talk your way out of them with renegade or paragon choices?

get every single codex and so on.....

You can't on a 'first playthrough' for a character the level caps at 50, you need to do a NG+ to get past the 50 mark

Before I start I admit I've skipped a few posts but in order to get to level 60 in two playthroughs you must end the first playthrough at no lower than level 56.5. The XP from levels 1-56.5 is the same as levels 56.5-60, it's crazy. Experience Guide

I ended at 59, but after I got Pinnacle Station I managed to max out.

Guess that worthless piece of crap DLC was good for something after all!

The only time I got a 60, btw. I just don't like NG+.

That's not true, I usually end at around 52.

thats because you unlocked level 50-60 on your very first playthrough.
check the achievements.

Alot of people can't make that huge point gap in the second playthrough.

Just get out and kill everything with your pistol and such.

Never use the Mako. And do every sidequest and raid all crates

Does it really matter what lvl your ME1 Shep?

I thought your choices in the main story arc is all the matters.. i am planning on running through just the main story just to get the PC saved game. Dont feeling like doing all the side quests.

There is going to be some 'bonuses' dependent on what level you finished at. It is stated it works in blocks of 10 so...

60 gets super bonuses
50+ gets slightly less bonuses
40+ gets even less bonuses
30+ gets real low bonuses
20+ how the frell did you beat this game without getting to 30? :wizard::P

Am currently working on a NG+ at moment, can't remember what level got to, just beginning to do the first of the big four missions but am getting frustrated as am suffering from the old GPF fault and I refuse to downgrade my Graphics Card drivers just for the game. I doubt I'll get to 60 but am going to be happy as I'm making some slight alterations to choices I made on the first runthrough.

Each time you complete ME1 it makes a save that is hidden and that is what ME2 takes for your import character. So you will have two characters to take through one at 38 and another just below 60. If you do a third character then you will have a third save. All of these saves will show all of the information attached to them in ME2 so you can choose which ones you import. There are also a number of bonus levels for character imports i think i read 35, 50 and 60 but there might be more. You only really get more money and minerals, it will not likely be THAT big a deal in the final scheme of things as they cannot be seen as punishing people who have only picked up ME2 or did not play ME1 that much or just got it in a sale like the OP

Hope that helps

Are you playing the PC or 360 version? If PC, just use the Console commands to get yourself there.

This could potentially invalidate your saved game for ME2. I wouldn't recommend it.

Sh*t. Good thing you've thought of that. I'm honestly not sure, but it's possible.
My first playthrough with this char was my first playthrough ever. I got to like level 38 and I only did 2 side quests or so (wtf?). Then right away I started my 2nd playthrough doing everything. And now I'm only level 56.
Does anyone know if it's ok to import the game file into ME2 while being level 56-58? Would I still get extra credits and xp??

you would but it'd be the L50 bonus, not the L60 one, so smaller than you could get

I think you'll need another playthrough to get to 60, sorry, I was in a similar situation myself recently when creating my "canon" playthrough, L59 at the end after having done all the sidequests aside from mineral and keeper scanning, so I had to do it all over again :crying:

but hope you can get there without another playthrough

Ugh... I have some work to do then... I really dont want to deal with the Mineral Quests and driving around on the Mako.

Yeah, I am currently in the same situation. My 2nd playthrough was a completionist playthrough, I'm at 57 right now and about to head to Ilos. I'm pretty disappointed all of my choices in this playthrough will end up for nothing as I'll have to do a speed run to get to 60.

yeah, sorry to say this, but without dlc you are out of luck. i have heard there is an exploit for infinite exp, you might be able to use that. but if you are going to ilos, you will get to lvl 58 at most, even on foot.
