I'm running Windows 7 64 and installed BG1 and TotSC without problems - but when I try to launch the game, it tells me it only runs on English language operating systems. True enough, I do not have English as first language or as OS language, but this has never been a problem before. I tried to run the game as admin and in compability for Win XP service pack 2, but nu luck. Could anyone tell me what might be wrong?
Wrong OS?

Have you installed from the 4-in-1 boxset. If so, try adding the international patch for tales of the sword coast.

(if you bought the game from GOG it is pre-patched so don't try adding it in that instance)

That did it, thanks!
Silly me for assuming the 4 in 1 came prepatched... its not as they haven't had a decade to fix this kind of problems...

The later games were patched, or at least had the patches on the disc, but when the 4 in 1 games were launched, they reverted to the originals for some unknown reason.

The original versions were released pre-patch (obviously) and a number of patches were released.
I believe the 3 disk (saga) version of BG1 was patched but I think it had a few quirks such as missing files & music.
The 4-in-1 was a later dvd (originals) + cd (expansions) but unpatched. Maybe the 3 disk issues meant re-packaging wasn't deemed a good idea. edit, as Wise says maybe the patches are on the disks but have to be run standalone, I just found it easier to download them while the game installed.
The GOG versions are pre-patched.
I have all the originals and expansions from the time of launch but bought the 4-in-1 several years ago to simplify installs and to briefly multiplayer with my son. I recently bought the GOG versions so I can finally pack the disks away.
