This thread regards the PC version.
I was wondering where exactly the council decision (save or kill) and the human councelor choice is saved. Becuase the last autosave is just before the final battle with the geth-saren thing, and you cannot quicksave anywhere after that. So, there is no file that the final decision is saved in, except for the new "Char_xx-xx-x-x-x-xx-x-2010-xx-xx.MassEffectSave" file that is created in your Bioware folder after you complete the game.
Can anyone confirm that that's it? I'm actually 99% positive that's the thing you gotta import. Right?

That is the file yes. From what I have seen, running the game in windowed mode, the file is created after the council decision, but before you choose Anderson or Udina.

It may come up in the series of questions to test Shep's memory.

it's possible the file is modified again after creation

Yeah, I just only now realized that the save before the final geth-saren battle is AFTER you decide the council. That however still doesn't explain the decision about Anderson/Udina. I am guessing the file is modified then.

Unless it is modified through some magical process that bypasses Windows, then no, it is not. The timestamp on the file remains constant. Unless I'm nuts, and someone wants to go through the whole process again to verify it.

I think it's stored in the new game + character save. That's what you import in ME2.

Yes, that's what we are talking about. The issue is when it creates the file.

I'll probably be finishing my final perfect playthrough the next day or so.  I'll keep the window open on one of my other monitors and watch when the file's created.  I'll also watch to see if it's modified after the initial creation to add the Anderson/Udina choice.  Stay tuned!

That would be appreciated. I did it quite a while ago, so maybe I'm crazy.

I think a dev said that the Udina/Anderson choice would be addressed in ME 2. I'm pretty sure it doesn't carry over.

Really, who would want Udina on the Council?

I always choose the "Let the politicians handle this one" option.

The council is only dead if you let them die, or are playing without importing a save.

I've heard that the Council is effectively replaced by humanity (or something like that) if you left them to their fate. So you're prettymuch part of the master race if you let them die...

In one footage it sounds like they were killed during Shepard's absence. I might be wrong though.

Yeah but the point is I didn't let them die. The one thing I don't want it Humanity ruling the council. Think about it this way: We will be described as bastards who shut off the comms to the Ascencion and saved ourselves and took over the council in the history books. If we save the council then Humanity will always be viewed as heroes!
I can also check since I have a save just before I enter the council room that Saren is in so I can just place the folder on my 2nd monitor and play the game again and watch the file.

Edit: To the post before this: I doubt it, because they said this decision will be carried over. Why would they kill them off then. It's stupid one way or another.

Remember there are three endings to ME1. Either you save them and they add a human to the council, you let them die, and they are replaced by a new council of all 4 races with human chairmen, or you let them die and they are replaced by an all-human council.

Wait, how do you get the new council with 4 races ending?

Let the Council die with a Paragon character.
