So since I pug 100% of the time, are there any classes that are particularly good on their own? It is very rare when I run into a remotely coordinated team in a pug.

Or can all classes work fine standing on their own two feet if you know how to play them correctly? I'm making the transition into Gold now, but I am trying to find a class that I can manage okay with the rest of my team bleeding out half the time.

Kroguard with a reegar. Kill anything and everything in your way. Avoid praetorians like the plague though.

I'd say just play what you are comfortable with for a while. Any character is fine as long as you know what you are doing, but some make things a bit easier than others.

Batarian Soldier for one. Tanky, above average movement speed, High DPS with infernos, Short range CC with Ballistic Blades...just an all around death machine that would be a good choice for you.

One of my favorite characters to use. He may be a little difficult to use if you aren't situationally aware since he lacks a dodge. If you can handle that he is amazing.

Geth Infiltrator because with his ridiculous damage output you don't even need a team.

Juggernaut because he's immortal if you run Cyclonic IV

Krogan Sentinel. Super tanky and has the best grenades in the game.

Any character you can dominate with that you can play on muscle memory - where you can use the powers and weapons like a reflex, without thinking - will do the trick.

Also, learn the value of tactical retreat when it's obvious your team is about to be overwhelmed, I've found that it's invaluable for me to get away from the heat when my last remaining teammate gets synced (or goes down in an impossible to revive situation) and switch my mindset to solo mode.

Vorcha Sentinel. If you're left clutching a wave, flame, run away, hard cover, grenade, shoot, repeat.

Low shields, but bloodlust totally makes up for it.

Praetorians don't get close enough to become a threat unless you're herping and derping around trying to melee all the things instead of actually killing them.

Your statement is still wrong, juggernaut is not immortal even on gold. Not only praetorians, but scions, ravagers and marauders are very dangerous.

I second this. Especially since you're moving to a different difficulty. I know personally i'm much more comfortable being able to use something i'm use to if the match starts to turn bad.

If the Reapers give you trouble on Gold, you're doing it wrong.

The Juggernaut is the best way to play if you don't want to rely on randoms. They have tons of health, can't be sync killed, and can have great defenses set up with the right specializations. Their Pulse shots can do insane amounts of damage, and you can carry some great weapons with the Juggy if you don't want to be a caster type (and the pulses will still give you a good defense).

I don't want to writea whole essay on what makes the Juggy great, but I feel the inability to be sync killed, the outstanding defense, and the potentially good offense make him a prime choice to make yourself self sufficient. It's what I do and I don't fail that many matches.

When I first started PUGing gold I used a Turian Sentinel specced out of warp. It's not optimal for damage output, but it does give you a lot of survivability. Really the important part though is if you max the damage reduction in Tech Armor and max fitness on a TSent you're going to have a pretty tanky kit with decent damage output. How you split the rest of the points is up to you. Take your most powerful weapon, whatever it is.
