This is why my DA2 mage stayed in starter armour until finding the Robe of the Notorious Pirate.

I didn't like the Champion Armour, but I  used it for the final battle for the AC bonus.

In a matter of "realism", what type of clothing do real magicians wear in the past?

We know that rags and pointy hat is a witch costume in folklore, multilayer robe, pointy hat with crescent moon and stars is wizard costume in fantasy children books.

Like these...

Today magicians wear costumes like these...

Personally the perfect thing for me would be a sleeveless robe worn open, with lots of tattering. Like the protaganist from an old game called chaos legion.

This is exactly the kind of thing I dont want in a western RPG.

It still has the a fluffy velvet/fur collar too.

Okay, I'm not the only one who see a gorilla's chest with air-brushed abs there. Whoo! And what's with the leather straps on those pants? Makes me think he's going to Zevran's tailor.

Apparently Bioware agrees with you, and that's the reason I've played a female protagonist instead in all the recent bioware games.  <_<

God no. If I wanted to play Final Fantasy I would, the series lost its appeal to me 10-15 years ago.

Well, I wouldn't mind the types of outfits their red and blue mages get in DA:I.

The best looking robes won't matter if my character has a potato sack on their head, so hopefully the hats are considered too. :P

Ah but they've already done the next best thing and given us the helmet/hat toggle. Posted Image

What the hell is that shirt even made of? It looks like he's wearing panty house material on his chest.. And who the hell wearsdress shoes into combat? And why the hell isn't he do damned asymmetrical!?

Anime does not translate well into a 3 dimensional model.

I was trying to draw people's attention to the cloak itself. Was i a bit naive in thinking people might remain on topic? Posted Image

Just give us more variety in mage outfits. Just about every design was ugly, especially the crimson dyed ones with all the ruffles. The only ones for female mages that were tolerable were the ones with the bare shoulders, and even most of them were the same color.

My D&D mages generally avoided robes; I've always thought they managed to be both unattractive and impractical.

Something like Littlefinger's outfits for GoT would be much more typical, assuming item loadouts gave me a choice in the first place. Any wizard who's walking around in an outfit that says "look, I'm a wizard!" probably isn't much of a wizard in the first place

I support more mage robes like the robes of the notorious pirate, Hawke's starting robes, Bethany's robes, etc. Something cool and functional. The circle robes might make sense for circle mages in a circle, but out in the wilds or on the march or in battle, I don't think so. Imagine getting some of those bulky robes soaking wet, they'll be moving just as ungainly as if you put the mage in heavy armour, just without any of the protection.
