It's just that Liara has a mandatory role in the squad and story. People complain about that. Hence Liara, James, and EDI get the most complaints in ME 3. It was the same with Miranda in ME 2, and it'll be the same for whoever else is mandatory in the next game.

That's a different argument. Start a thread about it if it bothers you.

The topic here is over aliens, and somewhere along the way it dissolved into people questioning why I'm not attracted to aliens in Mass Effect (or any series) for that matter. It has nothing to do with story presence or narrative or personality or writing.

I will also state that I don't like Liara or Tali's personality either. Not that it would make any difference in choices or decisions.

I apologize for starting that snowball effect.

Oh, but it is has everything to do with that. I wouldn't have looked twice at Liara or Tali before I played Mass Effect. Sure, they're beautiful, but fiction is full of beautiful people. And real life. Somewhat. Kinda-sorta. The writing and narrative and personality has an immense impact.

Anybody else notice how it's almost always someone with a Miranda avatar/signature who's all "Aliens are repulsive, hoomans only!"?

Weird.

Wow David, fishing for arguments much? You're trying very hard to prove someone elses personal preferences or beliefs are wrong, which not only invalidates your argument, but makes you come across as an antagonistic jerk.

You're using hypothetical situations to back up your own opinions, and when someone refuses to take your cheap bait, you act like their reasoning is inferior since they don't deem it worth their time to argue. Perhaps you have fun trolling, but the people here are discussing their own personal opinions and preferences. Which by default of their definition, cannot be "false."

Please, for the sake of not going off on tangents that have nothing to do with the topic, stop doing that.

/end of troll feeding

Tali is my Shepard's LI in all my play-throughs. I like her personality and I tend to look at her as a person rather than an alien. There is more to that than just making babies.

Frankly I find the "Asari mate with anything" to be a bit repulsive. Liara herself is a little more than creepy.

Just out of curiosity what do you find creepy about Liara?

The way she comes at Shep in ME1, her change from innocent scientist to a ruthless info broker and her monotone voice to say a few things.

Edit : I don't have anything against Liara fans. This is just my personal opinion.^_^

Heh I know, I didn't think you did ^_^ was just curious, I always saw her forwardness in ME1 as her really not understanding humans or human society at that point, and the drastic change seemed normal at least for me seeing as she was with a colonist/ruthless shepard that she then essentially watched die only to have to go through the broker to retrieve her body, and personally I like the voice. But to each their own :D

What is it about Tali's personality that you don't like?

Now I definitely like both of their personality...but I can see how someone might not care for Liara.

However, with Tali...I objectively find her to be rather harmless...in a sense that I can't see how anyone can not like her.

That is complete nonsense. Opinions may not be provably false, but they can absolutely be based on fallicious reasoning and information. I have ever right to point out such things. More than a right, in fact.

Pretty much, but that's pretty much par for the course these days on the BSN. As I said, I don't really understand how a simple statement about someones preferences turned into a four page argument. This whole argument seems like people yelling at each other over personal preferences, 'tis rather silly.

Yeah...it's my fault.

I was simply looking for insight to someones opinion that differed from my own.

I certainly had no ill-will to them having a different opinion.

Definitely true, that's one area I wish they would have done a little more with the other romances or at least mention them in those scenes somehow if they weren't aboard the normandy, heck for that matter the scenes where she was in your cabin could have been more romantic if you romanced her

Holy Jesus. Nobody's 'yelling' at anybody. I sensed an error in reasoning and I followed up on it. That's debate. That's deductive reasoning. It trains you to think. It trains you to make good arguments and to have consistant ideals.

Sorry, only an ass goes around arguing and belittling someone elses personal preferences.

"He doesn't like aliens?? I'm gonna show him!" Said the person with an overinflated view of his own opinions. And more than a right? Pretentious jerk, like I said. Done feeding you, the topic should stay there. Start you own, "My opinion is right and it's my duty to discredit yours!" thread. Nice hobby you got there... lol

I didn't even see your posts as all that volatile at all, more curious about the choice of words, it's just the BSN has a habit of taking simple quandries and turning them into foaming at the mouth ranting arguments; it's pretty impressive really.

That's not the argument though.  Yes the writing, and the narrative, and the personality have an immense impact on my opinion of the character.

But you're missing the point. The point is that in-spite of all that, I still would not ever date, marry, kiss, or have sex with an alien, or hold any romantic or sexual feelings or desires for one.

That goes down to a base preference for a potential Love Interest: Be human. I know with 100% certainty that I can only have those feelings, urges, and desires for a human woman. I can get even more specific in my preferences but that's entirely outside the point of this thread.

There is no 'error' in reasoning. None. You believe I'm wrong for not being into alien women. That's not even an argument. There's nothing wrong or right in there at all.
