That's pretty much what I got out of your initial post, it sounded as you were talking specifically about your own preferences romantically and sexually, not that you had some sort of problem with inter-species relationships in general; just that they aren't for you.

To go even further, I feel the same about real life interracial couples.

I'm fine with them, but it's not for me. I am incapable of being attracted to a non-white woman.

prepare for the racist accusations!

Lol, I always called that having a type

Exactly, I don't necessarily find turians physically attractive, but I find Garrus attractive. Mostly because of his personality and that damn voice.

At least you're not as bad as the LGBT crowd. I support them, but a lot of them don't like how I don't believe in pan-sexualism. They're pretty vocal about it too.

Oh, my ... That must be the new generation of gays?

My generation was a more vive la différence mindset. Boys were boys and girls were hot ... I mean, girls! Image IPB

I would consider myself pan-friendly, if that is a word. I have no set rules on who can be my friend outside of serial killers, individuals who hurt children and chihuahuas.

I'd advise you to have every of your friend play the ME3 ending and immediatly cut all ties with everyone who chooses Destroy. Those people are the worst kind of genocidal sociopaths, I tell you.

I was thinking about this issue in a more general form:
Should SF shows/games promote more inner species relationships?

I get the antiracism image from which this whole interspecies romance concept comes from but at the end of the day we are talking about cats and dogs. It has become a weird kind of reverse racism that somehow all aliens feel more attracted to humans or people not of their own species than to their own species. The Asari are played entirely up to this point, even discriminating against Asari who were born from two Asari. They essentially reject the most natural way of reproduction in their species as evil.

I must say I loved it to hook Garrus up with a Turian woman in the Citadel DLC. He's some dinosaur thingie, she's some dinosaur thingie, it just makes sense for him to be more interested in colored head crests and mandibles and not really have a thing for the human female form, regardless of how much Shepard and him enjoy each other's intellect and wit.

In some SF shows it gets as bad as portraying all alien relationships as totally broken and the female alien starting a relationship with a human as some kind of salvation. Well, that's racism in another form (suggesting the alien cultures are all worse than the human one). Can we find some balance here?

It would be kind of nice to have aliens behave natural among their own kind. It's weird to play up all these biological barriers that exist between e.g. humans and Turians and completely ignoring the instinctive, basic drives that makes us select mates which is done by our brain stem, not our consciousness.

How about two squadmates from the same species who might hook up or at least exchange inside banter between each other because there are simply certain similarities between two dogs that makes it easier for them to fool around with each other on a different level.
We humans already see that when meeting when meeting a fellow countryman in a foreign nation. It's not that we have any discrimination against the indivdiuals in a foreign country, it's simply that it's very easy to connect to a stranger that shares your culture, language and home country.

This should be even more so when there is a definitive biological barrier between two individuals because they are two species. Dogs and cats supposedly hate each other mostly because they find each other's body language irritating as hell. Doesn't mean there aren't dogs that can live with cats, just that it shouldn't be as easy.

Just some thoughts.

Easy. When others can't deal with your preferences, they are the ones who have issues :D

I like Miranda, and in other games she'd probably be my canon LI. Mass Effect just happens to have 2 I like even more. As for Miranda, I love how she feels about Oriana and also how troubeled she was for wanting that control ship. Both her ME2 loyalty mission and said ME3 dialogue were very touching. Plus, she's sexy, strong and confident without being arrogant, maybe even a little too humble.

Exactly. Miranda has every single preference I have for a woman and she has a great story and character arc.

She's a feminine, classy, and beautiful woman (she is engineered for perfection right?) She's mysterious, dangerous, and lethal. A compelling mystery of a woman. Complex, confident, sure. She is strong and capable, and she is very... severe. I've always liked that. She has the defrosting ice queen trope mastered, and that's my favorite type of woman. Tall, beautiful, and enigmatic. And behind that all is a hidden sense of vulnerability, of belonging. She struggles with her place in the world due to the nature of her creation and how it affects how she does things. She has the drive to excel and her needs and love are worthy of someone of equal strength and stature. That person is Shepard, if you so choose. She needs, demands, someone worthy of her, and once that man is with her, she will be steadfast and loyal forever. She hides her feelings and thoughts well, but is tender and loving when she needs to be. And she's unique: there's an aspect to her that makes her special, that makes her more than your average person. She's someone who is truly meant for greater things with the protagonist.

Physically, she is my idea of perfection. Her body has perfect proportions (not to big, but perfectly equal and pristine), she has an beautiful face with striking sapphire eyes (I'm a sucker for blue eyes), her shining, dark, and brilliant mane of Raven hair, and her sharp, cool Australian accent (I love Australian women). She is tall and fair skinned, even somewhat pale. This goes well with my preferences for a woman: Tall, sparkling blue eyes, very dark brown/raven or golden hair, perfectly proportioned body, feminine without being girly-girly, and she'll be from a commonwealth nation (Australia is my preffered choice) or my own native United States. Add what I said about the uniqueness of the woman, having that quality that no other person has.

Yes, I do have a huge admiration and appreciation for Yvonne Strahovski if you're wondering.

It helps also for the nature of her romance: The two start off as sort of rivals, enemies, or are otherwise unfriendly or uncomfortable (or at least the woman is). Gradually, a respect is formed, and later a growing admiration. A bond is formed over a shared event or past and a certain sense of uniqueness that goes above and beyond a normal relationship, and coupled with the admiration in the bond, feelings start to develop, eventually blossoming into love. Not just love, but the true compassionate, all encompassing love that defines the greatness of the two, something that they would never get with any other person.

Here's a list of my favorite favorite women in fiction and their couplings to give you an idea of the women I go for and the type of romance I like. Nearly all of the women have the same physical, mental, and social attributes and the relationship structures around the above:

Miranda Lawson and Shepard (Mass Effect)
Sarah Walker and Chuck (Chuck)
Hannah McKay and Dexter (Dexter)
Bastila Shan and Revan (KotOR)
Vesper Lynd and Bond (Casino Royale)
Mara Jade and Luke (Star Wars EU)
Emma Frost and Cyclops (X-Men)

The song "Short Skirt/Long Jacket" by Cake and the song "She'll Never Tell" by the Daylights (the former of which is the theme song for Chuck, and the latter of which is the unofficial theme song for Sarah Walker as told by Yvonne Strahovski) both are good songs that describe the women I like.

Or George Harrison's 'Something'.

Hey, I wasn't suggesting anything, I've just noticed that many of the people who are more...critical of the alien characters are into Miranda. It's just an observation. :?

I always take Michel instead of Chakwas.

The Normandy needs some eye candy for the crew. I won't indulge, but It'll be good for morale.

I believe that it is subjective. A lot of the people don't like how I don't feel the same way as them. It works for them. Fine. That's their life. It's not the same for me, and they don't like that.

There is also the technical aspects of not being bothered to draw more nude character models, something you'll notice, is a recurring thing in all the games.

It is very amusing when you think about the fact that ALL Asari have the same model.(this applies to most races though)

I chuckle when I see a 'big, bad' Asari commando with the same body type as a tiny Asari stripper  :D

You are inducing a fallacy.

You are saying that since I am not physically attracted to aliens, I must be prejudiced against them as well as people.

That is not true, and it is frankly quite insulting if that is what you believe about me.

And I honestly don't give a damn about your judgement. It's going to be skewered against me no matter what I say.
