Easy. When others can't deal with your preferences, they are the ones who have issues
I like Miranda, and in other games she'd probably be my canon LI. Mass Effect just happens to have 2 I like even more. As for Miranda, I love how she feels about Oriana and also how troubeled she was for wanting that control ship. Both her ME2 loyalty mission and said ME3 dialogue were very touching. Plus, she's sexy, strong and confident without being arrogant, maybe even a little too humble.
Exactly. Miranda has every single preference I have for a woman and she has a great story and character arc.
She's a feminine, classy, and beautiful woman (she is engineered for perfection right?) She's mysterious, dangerous, and lethal. A compelling mystery of a woman. Complex, confident, sure. She is strong and capable, and she is very... severe. I've always liked that. She has the defrosting ice queen trope mastered, and that's my favorite type of woman. Tall, beautiful, and enigmatic. And behind that all is a hidden sense of vulnerability, of belonging. She struggles with her place in the world due to the nature of her creation and how it affects how she does things. She has the drive to excel and her needs and love are worthy of someone of equal strength and stature. That person is Shepard, if you so choose. She needs, demands, someone worthy of her, and once that man is with her, she will be steadfast and loyal forever. She hides her feelings and thoughts well, but is tender and loving when she needs to be. And she's unique: there's an aspect to her that makes her special, that makes her more than your average person. She's someone who is truly meant for greater things with the protagonist.
Physically, she is my idea of perfection. Her body has perfect proportions (not to big, but perfectly equal and pristine), she has an beautiful face with striking sapphire eyes (I'm a sucker for blue eyes), her shining, dark, and brilliant mane of Raven hair, and her sharp, cool Australian accent (I love Australian women). She is tall and fair skinned, even somewhat pale. This goes well with my preferences for a woman: Tall, sparkling blue eyes, very dark brown/raven or golden hair, perfectly proportioned body, feminine without being girly-girly, and she'll be from a commonwealth nation (Australia is my preffered choice) or my own native United States. Add what I said about the uniqueness of the woman, having that quality that no other person has.
Yes, I do have a huge admiration and appreciation for Yvonne Strahovski if you're wondering.
It helps also for the nature of her romance: The two start off as sort of rivals, enemies, or are otherwise unfriendly or uncomfortable (or at least the woman is). Gradually, a respect is formed, and later a growing admiration. A bond is formed over a shared event or past and a certain sense of uniqueness that goes above and beyond a normal relationship, and coupled with the admiration in the bond, feelings start to develop, eventually blossoming into love. Not just love, but the true compassionate, all encompassing love that defines the greatness of the two, something that they would never get with any other person.
Here's a list of my favorite favorite women in fiction and their couplings to give you an idea of the women I go for and the type of romance I like. Nearly all of the women have the same physical, mental, and social attributes and the relationship structures around the above:
Miranda Lawson and Shepard (Mass Effect)
Sarah Walker and Chuck (Chuck)
Hannah McKay and Dexter (Dexter)
Bastila Shan and Revan (KotOR)
Vesper Lynd and Bond (Casino Royale)
Mara Jade and Luke (Star Wars EU)
Emma Frost and Cyclops (X-Men)
The song "Short Skirt/Long Jacket" by Cake and the song "She'll Never Tell" by the Daylights (the former of which is the theme song for Chuck, and the latter of which is the unofficial theme song for Sarah Walker as told by Yvonne Strahovski) both are good songs that describe the women I like.
Or George Harrison's 'Something'.
