Only starting this thread to see if anyone here on BSN is playing it and more importantly actually liking it. There was another thread that seemed to be started just because the OP didn't like the concept of the series. I've seen the criticisms and meh Metascore, but I personally don't share either opinion.

So I started this one to see if anyone here on BSN is playing, happens to like it like I do and, wants to talk about it or share lessons learned and compare notes. I have to say in full disclosure that I'm not an MMO fan...at all, but Defiance has me somewhat intrigued.

I'm currently playing on PC, through Steam, and am finding the game very stable. I currently have about 25 hours in, with an EGO rating of 232, and am playing as Veteran class.

My personal likes about this game are:

Chasing Arkfall.
Vehicles and driving.
Quick in and out Co-ops.
A fairly compelling world and backstory.
Doesn't require any in-depth understanding of the world to jump right in.
XBOX 360 controller on PC is supported right out of the box, which seems to work really well for this game (probably not a big newsflash, since it's multi-platform).
Difficulty on some missions is no joke, and almost forces you to throw together a PUG or find at least one partner.
Quick access multiple load outs.

Dislikes:

No cover mechanic.
UI is...I don't know...weird (but I suppose it functions adequately).
Need more loot.

Anyone here on BSN playing Defiance and actually enjoying it?

I picked it up over the weekend for PC and dabbled in it then. Been playing after work this week and I do enjoy it. Only have an EGO of 86, but haven't had a whole lot of time to invest in it. I will have to agree with you on the likes save for the controller as I just use a gaming keyboard and mouse. i have also found that some spots having at least a partner makes it a lot easier.

Do you think picking up the Season Pass is worthwhile? Having little contact with MMOs, I don't really know what to expect there.

Defiance is my first MMO so I really can't say if it's worthwhile to pick up a season pass. I am strapped for cash so I am just going to take it as it comes. Ultimately thought it is up to you whether or not you think it is worth picking up the season pass.

I've been thinking about picking up this game because it looks pretty cool but I'm not sure yet. I like the idea of an MMO on consoles and teaming together to take out the random event bosses looks pretty cool.

I played in the Alpha/Beta of the game, and I'm glad I did because I probably would have purchased it otherwise. The character creation is too sparse, the game has no compelling PvE, and there is absolutely no PvE end game to speak of. The skill/talent system is extremely shallow as well. It's a console MMO and it shows.

I didn't try the PvP part which is negligible because even if it is amazing, I don't want to play a poor PvE game for its PvP.

I am enjoying the show, however.

The Wife and I have been playing it since launch and enjoying it. We've probably gotten a good 70+ hours logged so far, which is pretty good for a $60 game with no monthly fees.

I wouldn't reccomend grabbing the Season Pass yet though. The developers have very directly said you'll be able to buy the Pass after the DLCs start coming out. And no actual details of those DLCs have been released yet. So no incentive to buy early. Wait until more is known.

My husband and I have been playing (we got two copies). We have been enjoying the crap out of it. We've also been watching the series, which has been...a little unimpressive, but the game. The game is awesome.

I'm really impressed at how smooth the game plays on xbox. I would have never thought an mmo would actually work this well. It has some flaws, don't get me wrong, but it's a really fun experience. And I'm happy that a lot of people are playing it; other players have saved my arse more times than I care to recount. The arkfalls, and other missions are more fun with random people running around. It really makes the world feel alive.

That initial patch was ridiculous (huge!), though. But once past that, it was smooth sailing.

I do wish for more character customization options - I mean, I wanted to play an Indogene, dern it.

With so many new series hitting the ball out of the park and raising the bar, I had high hopes for this series. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed and ended up switching channels on the premiere early on. I have no interest in the game.

^ The show doesn't really do the game justice, tbh. It's not really a premise that translates well into television. If you can suspend disbelief for long enough to sit through each episode, it's a moderately entertaining show, but still kind of disappointing to me.

I'd recommend at least trying (maybe renting?) the game, and seeing for yourself. It really is a lot of fun.

I agree, this is a case where the game is actually better than the show.

This is the first mmo I've played and I must say...why have I not played mmos in the past lol. This game is in my opinion tons of fun. It has some hiccups but overall doesn't kill the fun factor from it. I enjoy the fact that I can team up with anyone that accepts.
Funny just last week someone from the community was a dj at the crater bar playing music and taking request, thought that was cool. I don't watch any shows on syfi but I am hooked on the show.

The game is fairly fun - I pop in every so often for arkfalls now that I've completed the existing main storyline. I've been kind of lukewarm on the series itself thus far like others here, although I'm willing to watch the whole season to see how it turns out. Thought this week's episode was better than previous ones.

Yeah, I agree about this week's show...and I really need to get back on the main quest and quit chasing Arkfalls. It really does hook you though.

Really like the multiple Arkfall events, and all the vehicles spawning at one time at the end of the first fight, as everyone hauls ass to the next one 200-300 meters away, and then rinsing/repeating 4 or 5 more times. You see some massive numbers at the summary screen once it's all over.

Yeah Arkfalls are all fun and games until one lands on top of you while doing a time trial! I've been playing since launch and I've had quite a bit of fun with it.

I'm really enjoying the show episodes, they are getting better. Also anybody get gold or tried the dodge challenger trials? This game is pretty addictive.

How does the story and character interaction compare to The Old Republic?

I held the top time for a while, I was quite proud of myself.

I need to get a Challenger. Hasn't been a priority as of yet. I'm still putting about on a Hannibal.

If you are going to get a roller I would suggest you get a Duni. Challengers are faster on roads but a Duni dominates off-road.

I still have my original vehicle, but I haven't been playing lately (I blame DD: Dark Arisen). I've been keeping up with the show, though, despite its ridiculousness, but haven't had time for the game.
I'm looking forward to returning once I've beat a dragon and conquered a dungeon crawl.  Image IPB
