I have only read the bit of what David Gaider has posted with the preview of this upcoming comic but if we have to deal with any mages like the one shown in this preview on this page saying something like he does here in DA3 I may actually be supporting the Templars for once.

Influenced by demons/spirits or not this is just sets off so many warning bells in my head it is not even funny. Having influence to do whatever they want, influencing the world, and people around them without any consent or choice just screams bad to me. I guess what I would try to do in DA3 if it is allowed is to find a balance of freedom but with a big brother is watching you kind of deal to keep you in line if you push the limits. Just curious what you guys may think of this as well.

Um...The comics are not canon to the game. Why assume all mages are evil when that is NOT the case?

I know its not cannon I just said if we have to face someone like this particular mage in DA3. Just because it is not cannon doesn't mean it won't have some influence. Same goes for Dawn of the Seekers movie. I haven't read the novels myself but I have read alot of spoilers here and there from others. It just seems like a lot of other mediums for the Dragon Age series have been painting a lot of the mages in a bad light lately.

What about the ones that are evil, and really powerful. All it takes is one psycho.

What is another warning bell is the mage on this particular page saying becoming like the old dragon gods just sounds like more Blight to me.

There definitely need to be watchmen when mages are the ones with the greatest means to carry out a megalomaniacal plot to attain real ultimate power (now that is an old meme) in a bid that will surely threaten another apocalypse.

Granted, they don't have exclusive means to that end. Meredith didn't do so bad herself.

Dreams huh? So I guess that guy is a Somnari, Boy Feynriel is going to learn some cool things from the magisters. :wizard:

I just believe there needs to be line drawn that both sides can agree on. And if someone crosses it there shouldn't be an exceptions or mercy given.

And when I am playing a badass mage I want my mage to look like this guy. XD Almost did that with Awakening armor for my mage but that came so late in game.

Also please Bioware if you can make us be super serious or let us be evil then allow us to be badass like this guy?

As long as one of the sides is not the templars or anyone who thinks alike.

A somniari antagonist would actually be pretty neat. The degree to which they can manipulate the Fade (maliciously against you) and, apparently, reality as well, has a lot of potential for gameplay and story alike.

As long as we are not stuck in the Fade for over an hour. I hated and got so sick of the Sloth portion after a while in DAO.

No please, I won't be able to bring myself to see any mage as an antagonist during a mage, templar war. It will just feel bad. =]

Wait, does that mean we can turn into a dragon in DAI if we play our cards right?

Joking aside, I'm game for setting everyone on fire in a blaze of reptilian glory.

The mod on nexus that made it shorter made it soo much better, and made a lot more sense. The one when you just free yourself and at once travel to help all your companions.

And this is why I always make Feynriel a Tranquil. Titus is not even a real somniari.

They shouldn't just be mustache twirling evil like some generic Tevinter guy though. They should be like Magic Loghain.

Realize that this thread was made by me who was once a 100% mage supporter, but now that I see/read something like this and know that there are guys like this guy or are perfectly normal/doesn't seem to be influenced by any demons/spirits doing this kind of questionable magic by their own free will makes me look at the idea of supporting mages, at least fully, this time not a great idea.

I felt that Loghain was just overly paranoid and a tad bit racist in the long run.

Personally I think it's still better than the Templars and Qunari. I'd support a phycho mage over a templar anyday, I can deal with them latter when the templars are out of the way so they have 1 less reason to go psycho in the first place.

But this guy doesn't sound psycho. He sounds like he knows what he is doing and believes it is right which is worrisome.

Yes but the thing is I have no good arguments to reason with a guy like that until templars are out of the way.
There is no real reason for a mage to have any compassion or understanding or care for a society that would gladly see him/her dead or tranquil or locked somewhere in a tower.

I usually try to be understanding and nice to people, though I tend to get really pissed when they don't want to be nice in return. I want people of Thedas to accept mages and I want mages to act nice and not abuse their power.
This will never happen as long as templars exist so I can't support them.

First of all, any possible persecution does not justify world domination especially considering Titus is a Tevinter Magister which means he never suffered persecution his entire life.
Second, even if we were yo accept your logic, it can be turned around against you. Why should the templars care for the mages when they would gadly see them destroyed or enslaved? Peace can never exist so long as the Magisters do. There were Magisters long before there were Templars so, clearly, they started it.
