Think about this, what if your traveling throught who knows what and you see a corpse that looks familiar. What about getting a system that allows you to bury, burn etc... read letters, maybe even find out the truth they thought of your choices in previous games.

Obvious fan rage aside, I think this could be kind of funny depending on who it is.

There must be the need to carry the dead companions into a graveyard. Beware of being "heavily encumbered"!

^ And suddenly an image of tossing them over your shoulder, ala Dragon's Dogma popped into my head. I wish I had an image to share, because it's kinda funny to see.

But at least in DD, you could use a Wakestone and simply bring them back to life...thus negating the whole point of discussion. Image IPB

Back on topic, I can't picture a companion taking the time to write letters or a diary about my character. Just seems a bit creepy.

That's because it'd be stalking.

I mean, look at these characters:

You know I have to ask this really but...

They live in a version of the Middle Ages, how in the hell do all of these people know how to read and write? I mean REALLY It took the Modern world untill the 20th Centrury to get that far. **** in first world nations you STILL find large numbers of the population that can't do either.

And you mean to tell me people that never wash (yet are somehow cleaner than anyone in Skyrim) can All read? The hell?

You should have played the new Tomb Raider.

Pretty much every crew journal entry is about or at least mentions Lara. Her best friend especially comes across as some kind of obsessed fangirl.

It is just the power of a fantasy setting. Roll with it, because there is no hope fighting it.

Yes, literacy in fantasy games is something that is rarely (if ever) addressed.

I played a PnP campaign once where the DM did a lot of tweaks like that. No character could read unless their intelligence and background were suited to it. It was actually quite a bit frustrating.

I did play Tomb Raider, and I completely agree. Very creepy. I think I had blocked that out of my mind. Image IPB

You then stumble over her decomposing corpse. I think that's the point of this thread.

Definetly a stalker. Keeping track of Hawke all the time, all for his protection she claims.

Well, I did vanquish the Archdemon in DA:O having lugged around all those bodies from that quest in Denrim since I didn't bother to throw them down the well.

Even though dead, I bet cloud of colorful butterflies would have burst from her shell of a body.

Actually, New England boasted a high literacy rate during the Colonial Era due to the area being mostly settled by Protestants since one was required to be able to read the Bible, and I think schooling was manditory even for non-Protestants.

Are you talking about party members? If so, they do have good reasons for knowing how to read and write. And I'm sure they sometimes wash, and get dirtier than the people you see in Skyrim (heck, I'm pretty sure the average person you meet in Skyrim would be even dirtier)- it's just not shown in-game or on the models.

Well, those in Skyrim who were not literate could get someone else to give them a hand such as the greath smith Thorbald, as it was his minion who served as scribe to give us 'Forge, Hammer, and Anvil' (a brilliant audio youtube rendering of his book plus many others). It also makes sense since most of the puzzles in Skyrim consisted of you matching up columns with simple images of a whale, bear, snake, etc or maybe they just didn't bother with decent puzzles in the game. *shrugs* (yes, i'm pretty sure its the latter)

Yes! I would very much like to see the corpse of Anders so I can stab him again and maybe kick him off a cliff.

I'd imagine that after 10+ years the warden's dead companions might be a bit bloated.
