I might have spent a ton of time on the game, but every now and then I learn or relearn something which is always an odd experience.

Dunno if it has been mentioned, but if you have a fast heavy melee you can reliably stun phantoms with it, so instead of backing off in a panic when there is no cover available, just smack them once and blast away.
I do remember a very recent dev post that made me decide against doing this.
Apparently, it's possible for a situation to occur where you stagger a phantom (or any enemy that can sync-kill, for that matter) as soon as it has decided to melee you, resulting in it immediately becoming primed without having to finish the animation and (possibly) stabbing you in the gut before it has even finished it's stagger.
Since you are using a melee to stagger, the possibility of instantly priming it's sync kill goes up too (because you have to be in melee distance).

Oh, forgot to ask: what is the trick with the ops pack vs. sync kills? How does it exactly work and when?
Given the infamous reliability of Ops Packs, it is, at best, an inconsistent trick, further hampered by the fact that it only works if you accurately predict the Phantom Synch-Kill.
The example in the video was a coincidence. I was using the Ops Pack for the invincibility frames because I had been Health-Gated, and would have gone down, otherwise. The Phantom chose that moment to Synch, and I was saved.
It's a small window, but if you use the Ops Pack just before the Phantom launches the Synch-Kill, the invincibility frames protect you from dying. Instead, after you hit the ground, you pop back up.

The half-second lag time has always made this pretty much impossible for me. I can barely get the things to save me when I'm getting shot at, much less shanked.

I'm going to be completely honest — Stik, we've never played together, but your posts always kind of whipped my ****. Too professor-ish.
But you did a really good job on these. I've played this game a lot and still learned a thing or two. Thanks for posting!
Edit: Only thing that I would add is breaking the Phantom sword. Obviously most vets know that, but I'm surprised how many people out there don't realize you can do it. Changes her capabilities significantly. Only sync-kill enemy that can lose her power like that.
well, at least this helped

i personally don't do it that much, if ever, along with the stairs/synchkill glitch, so i didn't even think to mention it

Thanks for the explanantion, which explains why I was never able to save myself from synch-kills with ops pack.

I'll admit it....Even with as much experience I have playing this game Banshees occasionally frustrate me. Not because of syncs or anything but because at times they JUST WON'T STOP CHARGING no matter how much damage I'm doing. That and how erratic their patterns can be at times are a pain in the ass.
What is this?! Admitting a problem or weakness? After spending so much time on the game?! You're supposed to play flawlessly and never die from bosses, yo!

yeah. I hate Banshees more than anything. They always seem to know how to push my buttons.

It's quite simple. If you get hit with a Phantom's melee attack, spam your Ops Pack button and pray.

The Praetorian weakspot isn't quite as small as you make it out to be. You can expose more of it by shooting right into the its grill/mouth. You'll know the plates are off when the Praetorian does a barrel roll. With the plates off, the weak spot is much bigger and easier to hit with all weapons.
When fighting phantoms, it's usually best to trigger their bubble and then go in with weapons. Phantoms are only dangerous when they're attacking or flipping around, so once you immobilize them, be relentless and they become pretty easy pickings.
Also, I think the slope trick was touched on but not said explicitly. You usually can be sync-killed when standing on a ramp, though the game cheats sometimes.
