 So I started to complete the Outsider challenge, and now it's time to give the Vol Clan some serious action. But before I start, I'd like to ask what is this Shield Boost bug I heard about. When does it occur, how it affects my teammates, so basically what shouldn't I do, I really don't want to mess with my fellow players

It makes team mates unable to shoot or use powers. You can fix it by doing a heavy melee (Or a light melee if you're a Juggernaut), unless you're also a Volus, in which case the only way to fix it is to die.

I believe it happens if you Shield Boost someone while they are reloading. The glitch will not effect the host of the lobby.

to fix, Heavy Melee. I fix it with my fists!
to avoid. Don't shield boost. or don't be a Volus. Keep your filthy energy to your self.
since that is all ridiculous, your teammates need to adapt, Why can't you play my way!!!
Or you can play solo. Here I go again on my own...

It doesn't occur only when a teammate is reloading. I've been locked up while sitting in cover or any number of scenarios where I wasn't reloading. I try to cast or shoot and nothing happens. Heavy melee fixes it, but it's very annoying, especially if you char has a long HM animation. For that reason, I don't take radius on shield boost as it may unintentionally affect other players. However, when I see a Slayer hosting a match, I'm always tempted to change to my Volguard.

Simple,dont spam the hell out of shield boost.I dont exactly know what triggers it but not spamming it reduces the chances.
Team mates affected with the bug cannot use any powers and cannot shoot. A heavy melee solves the issue for them but can be deadly in sticky situations

To minimise the chances of the bug occurring, don't spam Shield Boost. Use it only when absolutely necessary, or when team mates ask for it. Bad Volus players spam it all game and do little else, good ones spend their time killing stuff.

Oh, and also, like everyone else is saying, don't spam Shield Boost. Heck, don't even use it for the benefit of your team unless you're reviving someone, running by them and just giving them some temporary DR, or helping out on an objective wave. You're not a walking Shield Pylon, and you're not a "support" class. Go kill stuff.

As others have said, shield boost only when you need to, not because you can.

One tip for the Engineer... explosions.

You'll learn when you need to shield boost teammates after you spend some time with the volus, waiting for the "shields down!" character call out it a good place to start. If you are playing pugs it wouldn't hurt to have a mic in case some one does lock up. Not everyone knows about that bug and how to fix it. Also their cloak actually does a decent job at hiding you, so use that to it's fullest. Shield boost also occasionally fails/activates slower off-host (at least with my terrible internet), so you may want to shield boost a tad earlier off host.

For the 50% damage reduction they receive teammates should be able to deal with the occasional glitch.

Nope, it's annoying. We can survive without the DR, thank you. Go shoot stuff and shield boost smart please.

Interesting, I never knew that. Can anyone else confirm?

It would mean things like the PPR, CSR and CSMG are almost immune to the glitch altogether.

On the other hand if you are using a claymore or widow...

Locking me out of powers in the middle of the fight will kill me unless I have 100% DR. You're only halfway there.

Doesn't mean don't take shield boost, every volus I have takes it, but I am extremely aware of when I use it around team members. Every person has a "shields down" vocal which, if my music/banshee howling isn't too loud I will respond to. Someone mentioned after you res someone as well.

I just don't need it spammed every 6 seconds

You're an idiot if you follow your team mates around and Shield Boost them.

The strangest thing happened to me today. I had this bug as a Bat.Sent in a team that had no volus on it! We had a juggy, a trooper, a GE and me. How on earth? Any ideas? Also I was heavy meleeing everything but it did not solve the problem.

You don't necessarily need to heavy melee or die to get unstuck. I have have success with taking a hit from an enemy that has stagger to it and having the stagger be a trigger to allow me to shoot and use powers again. Works for a Volus at least, as that's when I noticed I was getting unstuck before death when trying to get un-Volus'd as a Volus.

This has been my experience as well. I try to clip the last of the volley from a Prime. (Where applicable. No refunds.)

It might also happen with healing by geth turret and by demolisher's pylon. At least I experienced this sometimes on a laggy host.

It will go away eventually in most cases and then, heavy melee should fix it.
