Moving From BioWare to Beer: Greg Zeschuk's IGN Interview
#1
Posté 04 mai 2013 - 12:39
May 1st Interview with IGN is up.
/snip/
“The passion and level of engagement was so high that it makes it very hard to solve every scenario you wanted to solve at the end of it,” Zeschuk says of Mass Effect 3. “I always still sincerely think it’s because [the fans] really really care about what we make. It’s not random. It’s like, they may be disappointed when they can’t get the choice they want because they’re so intimate with their story or their character or their game. If it’s not just the way they want it, it’s not right. So it’s a very hard thing to reconcile, but the reality is, I can understand completely where it can come from.”

Honestly, he comes across as a talking head for EA in this interview. I get the sense that he was treated great, sure, because he's a head honcho. I'd be more curious to hear a thoroughly frank opinion from someone lower-ranked, not that we'll ever get that opportunity.

Being apologetic or not, for a big company like EA after a screw-up is always easy.
The "lower-ranked" probably got sacked or are too eager not to screw their careers.
Apart from that, the interview is needless, trying to create just another footprint in the mud.

The hilarious thing is that no, he doesn't understand. Just like nobody who covered the ending understand. I was never frustrated because "this game is not specifically tailored to my exact headcanon down to the tiniest detail.". It was always because the ending was stupid and made no sense.

I still don't understand how people can say the ending makes no sense.
Cuz it comes all of a sudden. Even the "Synthetic vs Organic" issue was preshadowed in ME1, the final choices are still quite abrupt to the main story.
I mean, were the Priority: Earth was more detailed, and Shepard finally find out that all the stories were bond together, therefore the Reapers seemed to be a conclusion. The endings would make more sense.

He can't say "yeah two guys screwed up in the end but they are my buddies so all i can say is "bioware fans always were passionate about the games bla bla" and since bioware is a part of EA and EA stock sucks i don't want to make it worse by my honest opinion, also i don't even wanna talk about this. I've made a lot of good games in my time so now i just wanna do what i want"

I'm sure he'd be a little looser with his language about the fans in that situation, too.

There are complaints about the ending not making sense and the starkid, but at the same time I see a lot of "why does my Shepard die" which could be taken the way you see it and the way he sees it. There are also "where are my choices" which was a very common complaint for a long time. Honestly I think you both are right and its not just one answer for not everyone sees the ending the same way.

It's a reason, and a bigger one than a lot of people say, but I think it's disingenuous of lot of people to condemn the entire ant-ender crowd as "whiners who don't get to bang their virtual gf/bf at the end." Of course, that's not the rhetoric that they all use nor are they all completely dismissive of it, but that message is really at the core of a lot of the pro-enders beliefs towards the anti-enders.
That said, it seems Dr. Zeschuk has always been quiet about things behind BW and in things in general. I do believe he's skirting the question, whether to hide his true beliefs or to support BW.
From his dialogue, he really seems to be taking a different approach to the ending than Dr. Muzyka.
At the end though, really, it doesn't matter what he thinks. It doesn't change the way I feel about the game, and since he really had nothing to do with the actual game itself, his opinion likely didn't matter to Casey or SuperMac.

Well it's easy when you don't explain why you like something or how you understand it, and then attack others for not liking it or understanding it without defining it yourself.
You do that, pretty much in every post you make on the BSN.

Well, a story which was supposedly built upon the player's choices not having a lot of variation in the endings, particularly in regards to the fate of the protagonist, is very much a valid complaint.
