Getorex: Seeing as you were toying with ME1 armours in ME3, can the reverse be done? I'd love to have the Alliance Marine Armour in the first game

I took a look at pcc files in ME2 with the intention of seeing if I could do some kind of hex edit-based import. I used a default Tali mesh from ME2 and from ME3 to compare and...they are virtually identical but the encoding is different so I couldn't do even a binary swap of identical meshes from the two games. I also looked to see if UDK would be able to open ANY ME1 upk files...so far, nope, so you can't get into it that way either. WV says that Bioware used an altered UE engine, altered enough to prevent loading into UDK.
Damnit.
It'd be nice if Gildor, the guy who make it possible to export meshes from either ME1 or ME2 to make a tool to go the other way. If he can pull out a primo psk from the game, presumably he could put one into it too...
I wouldn't do much to ME1 overall because I like the way everyone looks there, but I could see shifting armors around so they are unified throughout, at least to some extent. I'd also unify my Tali face mod throughout the game, and apply my Miranda mod to ME2 and eliminate the breathers and give them helmets in ME2 as well...or at least give it a go. You can't just swap a breather mask for a helmet for any human with long hair. Try that with Miranda and you will see her wearing a helmet with her long hair flowing out the sides and bottom of the helmet...all wrong.

I would like it in ME1 if the Alliance uniforms were the ones from ME3 mainly. I know that CDAMJC did update Anderson's uniform, but that was purely texture. To be fair, I think that all of the ME1 things I'd like done could be done with textures...
This is the comparison of the textures for the ME3 Armour and the Onyx:

I did try to do before, but I'm far from being good enough :/ Even if I could manage that, no way could I do a female version.

While the textures go a long way, the armors in ME3 (and ME2?) are more complex in form. In ME1 they're all fairly smooth (legs and arms) with armor plating coming from texture. In ME3 the mesh itself has 3D shapes for plates and then the textures go over that. Still...texture can go a LONG way.

Also, rather than me try and find the textures again could you post the onyx so I could download it and try it on the model I have? Preferably the medium since that is the armor mesh I pulled out.

In doing this I at least found a way to preview the hair in 3ds before I import into the game so I can see where there may be problems with transparency. No more completely blind taste testing. Should speed things up a bit with less trial-and-error.

You can ask but I'd personally feel meh about it as that style does define her mod quite some and it is custom created. Nobody can stop you from creating a custom mesh like she did out of Ash's hair but to take hers and alter it for release rather than personal use, I'd personally say no. It's kind of bad ettiquette.Getorex wrote...
Also, I do like the contours of ELE's hair, the sweep back vs the pull back so I may take that hair and modify it a bit into a variant.

No worries, I wont. I'm editing some sim hairs to fit instead - fairly substantial edits so they wont be just minor alterations.
Also, I wouldn't have just "done it", I would have gone to her first.
Anyway, here's a hair mesh I'm working on at the moment:

Now obviously it isn't a "clean" ponytail, there is still hair hanging down around her face BUT I'm loosening up on that anyway because Femshep gets away with the same sort of thing and even Male Shep can get some ridiculously nonfunctional/hindering hair.

Where would the download link be for Ash's new's uniform be at? Nexus Mods? Bioware forums?

Not up yet. I had to do the whole rebuild texture db last night after replacing pcc files again. Turns out there's a bug in the DLC mod part of the ME3explorer that makes mesh mods followed by texture mods to DLC (as I understand it) incompatible. I would sometimes get an error related to that when I was running some of my DLC mods for testing but couldn't pinpoint the actual culprit - thought my system was dicked up (again) because of previous Texplorer errors (which have resulted in me now having 4 separate identical entries for Ashley's default uniform texture, each referring to a different set of pcc files. Kfreon has stated he'll get into fixing the DLC texture portion as soon as he can but that it will leave a bunch of legacy stuff hanging around that will cause modders all kinds of headaches for a while until it can all get cleared away.
Anyway...give me another day.

I love Ash so she gets all the attention. I've actually found another ponytail hair mesh I prefer to the one I shot upthread a bit earlier...from Skyrim. I've cut, pasted, scaled, moved, etc, until it fits her head and I think I REALLY like it. Just finished with it in Blender and am about to import it into 3ds to finish it off (easier to edit UV maps in 3ds than in Blender...one of the few things that's easier in 3ds). Hope to get a screeny up this evening.
Oh, and sheesh! Get yourself a cheap PC so you can enjoy the mods for everything. Or a laptop...
