Just LOL? How the hell do they nominate Wolverine and exclude dragon age? This is seriously pretty laughable...

Well, since I'd never heard of that award before, I doubt it will have any impact on my game-buying in the future....

I liked Assassin's Creed as much as the next person but the story was like something cranked out of the dirty basement of a hermit and unceremoniously published on the internet.
Call of Duty and Wolverine being nominated is because of how popular they are nothing more.
Wet was making my head hurt from the few minutes of the demo I played. I didn't know that having the character strut into a room and start cursing was "writing". If that's the case they should have nominated Rogue Warrior.
Can't say I've played Uncharted 2.

Yeah and they are all better than some of those nominations...bobnolan wrote...
And Dragon age is just another Generic
fantasy game with "dark brooding heros" trying to stop an
"overpopulated horde." What's the point. There are a lot of well
written RPGs out with that same storyline.
Seriously... Wet? Are you kidding me?
The most flimsiest skeleton of a plot completely splattered with what InvaderErl said gets a nomination above DAO?
Ahh well, most 'award ceremonies' are full of carp anyway, so I suppose it shouldn't surprise us.
Wouldn't surprise me if the panel whom put in the nominations all just asked their kids what games they enjoyed most.

"To be eligible for entry, games must have been released between December 1, 2008 and November 30, 2009, the work must contain separate writing credit(s), and the credited game writer(s) must have been and/or must have applied to become members of the WGA’s Videogame Writers Caucus at the time scripts were submitted."
Canadians obviously can be part of the Writer's Guild of America.

I wonder if you happen to be aware of the fact that the quality of writing is about detail, not about the general plot. Just thought i'd mention it

This raises the fairly serious question of where one is supposed to get reasonable, reliable and objective opinions on games? Sources seem fairly hard to come by based on recent experience.

This appears to be yet another example of why gaming "awards" are a complete joke nowadays. First the farce of Gamespot's 2009 awards, and now an award where you have to be part of their little club in order to win?
Why would you say it a farce (I mean Gamespot 2009)?
At least related to the Game of the Year and RPG of the Year award, while I LOVE dragon age, and personally prefer it to Demon's souls, I can see quite a few reasons why Demon's souls could receive such an award. Dragon Age is a great, lovely, beautiful AAA title, but Demon's Souls is quite great as well, and introduces some absolutely outstanding innovations to the single player RPG genre. It's online component is something I loved from the very start, and it's unforgiving difficulty is a breath of fresh air in the market. It's obvious that Gamespot wanted to reward innovation+quality instead of just quality (albeit higher). I'd say it's not that outlandish, no?
Just imagine Dragon Age with the online caveats of Demon's Souls. To me it'd be the perfect game, and it'd integrate so perfectly with the Bioware social network that it isn't even funny

The Writers Guild of America is hardly "a little club." That said though, it's quite a bit like any other professional organization that holds an annual award dinner. If you're not a member of said organization, you don't get nominated.AmstradHero wrote...
