Yes, it is a union. Remember the TV strike about two years ago, resulting in your favorite primetime shows only running for half a season and networks resorting to ridiculous reality TV that didn't require writers? That was them.Rolenka wrote...
I once read something about this in PC Gamer, I think. Basically the writer's guild is like a union, and few game companies want to hire writers who are a part of it, and that's why so many great games can't be nominated.

Gosh, what are you guys upset about? Assassin's Creed 2 had some amazing writing and characterization!!!
"It's-a me, Mario!"
Mario galaxy 2 will top everything we have seen so far as far as writing and character development goes.
Maybe we should all be pm'ing david gaider to know if him and the other writers are part of the guild? Or to find out whose ass they were not kissing, hands that were not properly greased, or beak that was not wetted (Is wetted a word?)

Just imagine Dragon Age with the online caveats of Demon's Souls. To me it'd be the perfect game, and it'd integrate so perfectly with the Bioware social network that it isn't even funny
To you, maybe.
To me - I wouldn't play it.
There are tons and tons of multi-player, must-be-online games out there. Can't those of us who don't want them have a few single-layer, don't-need-to-be-online games?

You do know what most of you would be seeing if it had that same things and eamon soul right?
Watch out waffles ahead. Go home and beware of the waffles. Pancakes suck. etc and so forth.

They shouldn't have to be members, do people at golden globes and ostacar have to sign up a membership card in order to get the nod? dragon age should be at the top. Fact they have asssianns creed is laughable. Creed is an intense fighting combat play but as for as writing and RPG. They are little to nothing

Well it is clear you do not. So care to explain why you are here? Let me guess people who find different things interesting the what you do are wrong?
It is really a silly question to ask since the answers are right there in your face. Hell they even come with a picture and a name.

That's why you don't NEED to be online. It's optional :innocent:

Well, most people in Hollywood are members of a union or they don't get hired, so most are members of some kind of union. The Screen Actors Guild is a union. They have their own awards show, but it's highly unlikely someone would be hired to work as an actor and not be a member, so to answer your question, yes, they do have to become members of some kind of organization if they want to work.Joshd21 wrote...
During that whole "Writers Strike" against Hollywood. I looked into the WGA, they may be two seperate writers guild. Bu the membership cost around 2k. Honestly I think it's cheap to make people become members in order to give them an award.

For one, Demon's Souls isn't even an RPG. It's an action game.Abriael_CG wrote...
Why would you say it a farce (I mean Gamespot 2009)?
At
least related to the Game of the Year and RPG of the Year award, while
I LOVE dragon age, and personally prefer it to Demon's souls, I can see
quite a few reasons why Demon's souls could receive such an award.
Two, a game having a difficulty level higher than Ninja Gaiden is ridiculous. (And yes, that's all Demon's Souls is, a slightly glorified Ninja Gaiden as a fantasy game)
Three, I'm not just talking about about Demon's Souls or how "Dragon Age was robbed". Sims 3 "Best Strategy Game of the Year"? Afro Samurai best Original Soundtrack? There were just so many poorly chosen awards that I found the whole thing laughable, and assuredly won't be relying on Gamespot's opinion any time soon.
My apologies. I was a little too facetious there. My point was that awards are somewhat cheapened if it's supposed to be a game industry award, but a large number of titles are excluded from being nominated. But, if they wish to recognise the work of their members, I have no qualms, it is just hardly a true representation of the whole gaming market.Monica21 wrote...

They'll only nominate games which have memebers and companies paying their dues. So not brain dead, just have dollar bills on the mind.

Hate if you must but The RZA (and his pal The GZA) are goddamn geniuses and one of the few actualy talented people in that particular market. (by which I mean rap)
P.S. My taste in music is very eclectic and what I have on my Ipod spans over 400 years.

BLASPHEMY!
Demon's Souls IS an rpg, an action one. And anyone comparing it to Ninja Gaiden really has no idea of what either of both games are really about. If Ninja Gaiden is something you consider the heighst of difficulty, I am inclined to think your reflexes are not what they once might have been... seriously, Demon's Souls is not difficult, it is challenging, and a great game at that.
----
On the WGA thing... so EA/Bioware are not members, they don't get the award. It is what it is and I don't see a reason to demand change. VGA did give Dragon Age the RPG award, and that is the event videogames actually care about?

He should clear up wish ninja gaiden he is talking about. The old school ones were most definatly reflex testers. The newer ones well lets say I am not all that high on the reflex charts and blew threw them drunk and/or stoned...
