I don't consider Kelly or Allers to be actual romances, or any of the DLC's either. They're just people you can have sex with.

Even so, straight Femshep still gets the worst. Samantha, Liara and Steve are ALWAYS available, but a Femshep who saved Ashley and didn't romance Garrus in ME2 will have NO straight options. And this could have been easily fixed if Javik and James were available for full romance, and if relationships with Thane and Jacob were continued.

Yep. My femShep got totally screwed. Something is REALLY wrong if it end up like that.

If I really have to pick one thing it's Cerberus trying to kill to you when there's a friggin galactic invasion going on - I remember that to be a big WTF moment in my first playthrough of ME3.

Not only was Cerberus morally ambiguous in ME2 and mr. Man seemed to be a genuine smart guy, but he also talked about the importance of Shepard, being an icon and a symbol for mankind and all that, that's why Shepard was worth spending billions on.

So in ME3 all of the sudden Shepard is a relic in his eyes and is replaced by Kai Leng who fails at almost everything and Man himself has become a blundering idiot too.

ME1 - Mako

I came to appreciate it more, but still, it's the weakest part of the game for me.

ME2 - Lack of ME1 Squaddies, Some of the DLC, The Human Reaper/Terminator

Squaddies - Missed Liara, Kaidan/Ash and Wrex - luckily this was offset with some truly great ME2 squadmates

DLC - Really loathe Arrival as I can't really stand the 'no squadmates' thing, felt completely exposed all the way through it - I know that was the point, but I didn't enjoy it. At all. Also, Firewalker, just dull.

Human Reaper - Yawn. Also very easy in the grand scheme of things. The SM is brilliant, but this was a rather damp squib ending to it.

ME3 - Offscreen deaths, Tutorial mission, Ashley

Offscreen - I'm looking at you Emily Wong and Kal'Reegar -  Seriously? Death by twitter for EW, and Kal, the coolest ever Quarian, killed by email? Really? WTF?!

The tutorial mission - yes, I know that you have to roll out the controls, but FFS, this is the Reapers invading Earth, this should be epic, not some lame-ass kindergarten walkthrough of the controls!

Ash - Screwed. End of.

Biggest individual bugbear for me from those listed above? Not sure, it's definitely one of the ME3 ones, I'm just not sure which one - it comes down to one of;

Kal'reegar

The Tutorial mission

Ash

It's probably Ash. Turned her from a character that I always saved on Virmire, to one that now never leaves. :(

1. Jack not being one of the squad mates in ME3. I really think she is one of the most interesting characters in the ME saga.

A little bit of Morrigan from the dragon age origins, and a little bit of an absolutely loveable ******! More of that please!

2. The ME3 DLC (excluding The Citadell)

3. The generic side quest maps in ME1

In ME2 not being able to ask ME1 characters why they didn't do anything to find a way to stop the reapers? It seemed like with Shepard dead, the reaper threat is dead.

In ME3. No ME2 squadmates on the roster.

Playing femshep's stunt double at times. A lot of the things that she says and does, doesn't apply to the femshep I played in ME1/ME2.

The beam run. You'd think anyone would advocate against running down a bottleneck straight into a killzone, but no, let's just hope for the best.

The distinct lack of class influencing player agency. The Engineer interrupt on Omega was a good start, but there are dozens of scenarios where Shepard should have acted differently.

Soldier: Instead of killing Virmire Survivor on the Citadel, they perform an expert shot flesh wound that pierces and kills Udina. Similarly, Shepard shoots their gun out of their hand, like with Kolyat. Garrus then remarks on it being a nice shot (despite Garrus being able to do similar)

Vanguard: Charges Virmire Survivor, knocking them down, allowing squadmates to shoot Udina.

Infiltrator: Sabotages VS's gun, or cloaks and sidesteps to shoot Udina.

Engineer: Shuts down the terminal remotely, preventing Udina from calling a ride.

Adept: Throws VS down, allowing squadmates to take a clear shot.

Sentinel: While protected by Tech Armor, walks up and disarms VS, using their gun to kill Udina

There are hundreds of other times when this kind of agency would have been nice, but unfortunately we're stuck with a Soldier canon.

Mass Effect:

- Geth Hoppers

- Geth Hoppers

- Hoppers Geth

- Things that jump around (Geth Hoppers)

Mass Effect 2:

- Thermal clips

- Thermal clips

- Clips

- Thermal clips

- Miranda's gluteal muscles. Disturbing.

Mass Effect 3:

- Writing. This is a true problem for me. Some characters don't feel real anymore. Things like Jacob's: ''(...) I feel it, do you feel it?'' ''Yeah, sure, I feel it.'' Just who talks like that?

- Writing. Bought ''From Ashes'' recently, as an excuse to play the game all over again, and I absolutely love everyone's indifference to Javik. ''Oh, it's just a prothean walking around. Nothing out of the ordinary.''

- Have I mentioned writing?

- Romances. A strange one, but I'll explain. This is also valid for Mass Effect 2, of course. In the first game you had 3 romance options. Well, 2, technically. Two boring humans and an alien. Liara being a humanoid creature led me to believe that such a romance could happen. This gets strange in the later games. Where you can romance Garrus (for example), and even have sexual intercourse with him.

THIS is what makes me feel like the writing in the later games isn't well done, it's difficult to explain. Just how would it happen between a turian and a human? Or for example, a quarian and a human? Do male turians have penises? Do female quarians have vaginas?

If so, these alien races kind of lose their identity, what makes them unique, as they're pretty much humans dressed differently.

Maybe for the next games we'll have hanar romances. Hehe.

ME1- the combat and inventory

ME2- Bioware having shepard killed and wasting two years, the whole collectors plot, and too slow planet scanning (I don't count the pc speed as I haven't played it on pc), as well as the super quiet squadmates during missions bar a one liner

ME3- the overblown hatred it gets, the lack of war assets in priority earth, and inability to choose between doing rannoch or tuchanka first

The shuttle trip in ME2 that conveniently gets all the squad members off the Normandy just before the Collector attack is up there, too.

ME1--the combat mechanics, the randomized inventory in shops, re-skinned armor & weapons, the goddamn Mako, the same warehouse and cave appearing on every other planet, the overheating weapons, the femShep character model.

ME2--not enough main story missions, low exp level cap, the Hammerhead.

ME3--Shepard's nonexistent Court Martial, the retconning of having Anderson on the Council(ME1), Earth being the focal point of the entire Reaper invasion, Starbrat, off-screen deaths, ME2 characters getting killed and/or sidelined, War Assets pts, Rachne Queen redux, Kai Leng, stripped down dialog trees, barely existent Paragon/Renegade interrupts, dropped plot threads from previous games (i.e. Dark Energy), after the half way point the story became severely linear.

ME2 & ME3--stripped down RPG elements, can't upgrade squadmates armor, dumb squad A.I.(you practically do all the work during battles and half the time they're already dead) .

The worst thing in the whole trilogy? The argument on Horizon with the Virmire Survivor. (Especially if you romanced them)

Completely throws any semblance of logic out the window.

VS: "So, Shepard, I know you just saved my life, half this colony, and springboarded my career, I know we worked together to save all organic life and all, and I know we were in dozens of firefights and life or death situations, and we consecrated our love on a special night together, but you're with Cerberus, so kindly go to hell."

Shep: "But _______, let me explain, I wasn't even conscious!"

VS: "I'm angry with you for not contacting me."

Shep: "I was killed trying to save my crippled pilot from our burning ship! I was being rebuilt from a fall from orbit!"

VS: "Don't wanna hear excuses. Everything is about Cerberus trying to trick me. I'm going back to tell Anderson on you."

Shep: "Wait...."

VS: "f*** off. Keep an eye out for my half-assed email apology and/or poetry though... Oh, and if you dare cheat on me after I was SO nice to you today, I'll be pissed. Tootles!!!"

I think it is more believable if the VI is also your LI.  Shep can't be bothered to shoot an email or an omnitext.  Or whatever communication is preferred in the future (space omnitext?).

It makes sense that they would think Shepard's idiotic reason for not contacting them is of course idiotic.  It isn't like Horizon is the first mission after Lazarus.

If you simply mean the part where they won't join Cerberus to help you, that is fairly believable either way.  It really isn't any less believable than random aliens deciding to join up.

Where's this VI romance option? :P

Ha in the "Avina for Love Interest" thread in the Romance forum.

Good catch.
