ME1

-   Side mission homogeneity.  Just once, I would like to enter a spaceship and turn left.

-   The lack of in-suit recording devices.  Seriously, it's 2183.... some footage of the Sovereign encounter on Virmire wouldn't have gone astray.

-   Biotics >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> tech, depite the fact you're fighting Geth about 80% of the time.

-   The sterile wasteland that is the Citadel.  Zakera Ward may have been small, but at least it had some character.

-   Biotics on separate cooldowns.  Why can I lift / throw, but not lift / lift?

-   Being called a cop killer for shooting mercs.

-   Deciding whether the Alliance fleet should save the Council or hold back.  Isn't what they pay Admirals for?

ME2

-   Not being able to explain to the VS that I was dead for 2 years and Cerberus spent $billions bringing me back.

-   Shep running (both the animation and the inability to sprint for more than 20m).

-   The Arrival retcon.  I just spent two games thwarting the Reapers' attempts to return from dark space, but guess what?  They decided to rock up on their own.

-   Renegade Shep just being an evil a-hole.  Why would any sane soldier save Morinth or doom a whole bunch of factory workers for Zaeed's petty revenge plot?

ME3

-   The fact that the invasion begins at the start of the game, preventing any kind of exploration.

-   Not being able to shoot Kai Leng in Thane's fight.

-   Going to Dekuuna but not going to Dekuuna.

-   The weight mechanic.

-   The return of weapon levelling.  Talk about nonsensical.

-   Firebase Reactor.  Just hate the layout.

-   In the context of the main game - Citadel DLC.  As a stand-alone title it was a bit of cheesy, nostalgic fun, but throwing a party and fighting yourself while the galaxy is going to sh*t is not cool.

I very much prefer the weight mechanic over the class restrictions of the previous game, especially over ME1, which was the very worst. No matter the class, it just doesn't make sense that any version of Shepard wouldn't have training in the use of at least the assault rifle. At the very least, NG+ allowed me to give my vanguard the ability, but still...

True, but it doesn't have to be all or nothing. I have no problem with an adept toting a scimitar or a vindicator, but high-powered weapons like the falcon, claymore or widow should be reserved for soldiers, infiltrators and vanguards because they are the sort of firepower that requires serious combat training and strength to control.

The weight vs cooldowns mechanic not only makes no sense, it dilutes the benefit of playing a soldier. I'm not really a soldier fan anyway, but I was more inclined to play it in ME1 and 2 because it had a clear advantage in terms of weaponry. Not so much in ME3, given that an engineer can rock a saber and still retain a decent cooldown time.

Combat: In ME3 Shepard is too powerful, squad-mates aren't really necessary.

Story: Personally, I disliked how heavy-handed they got with the whole 'Shepard's the savior of the galaxy' thing. I'm playing a video game, it's a given that I'm saving something. They didn't need explicitly say it over and over again. I found it a bit creepy.

The story might have grown too big for just one hero.

Enemies are too weak, and too stupid.

ME1

I'm on PS3 mostly, so my issues with the first part of the installment stem from the fact that I'd already played the other 2 parts multiple times before having the opportunity to see how it all began, rather than simply using the Genesis comic.  From that perspective, it's incredibly clunky, and I've yet to complete a playthrough.  I used to use the 'making the most of the Servers while I can' argument to justify playing ME3 MP instead of playing ME1, but the truth is I find it a bit of a chore - especially the Mako.  This saddens me because it's the only weakness in my Mass Effect Obsessive Armour, or perhaps that should be the only tear in my Mass Effect Obsessive Anorak.

ME2

My favourite game of all time, and I do mean of all time, as I've been on the go since Pong and Manic Miner, so my criticisms are almost non-existent.  Shepard's running is a bit wonky I suppose, and I can understand why some people find the planet scanning a bit of a pain as it could have been faster.

ME3

The Shuriken.  I've never tried a Plat Solo in MP, and I haven't done all the map waves on Plat, but I've completed every single other challenge in the game, except the Shuriken challenge, because it's the worst gun in gaming history.  I'd have more success farting in the enemy's general direction.  It may be better in SP, but I wouldn't know because I hate it too much in MP to think about using it.

The Omega side missions trophy nearly cost me my sanity.  It took me 3 playthroughs to find the power inverters, but I suppose it was appropriate that the final trophy I unlocked in the game was called 'Meticulous'.

Insanity is too easy.  I've put 1500 hours into the MP, and Insanity is so much easier than Platinum, to the extent that Marauder Shields is the toughest opponent you'll face other than Kai Leng.

MP Collector Freezes on PS3.  There may be other issues with netcode and such like which are irritating, but the memory leak crashes are beyond unacceptable.

Those are all comments regarding gameplay mechanics, as I'm hesitant to be too critical on the artistic/creative side of things.  The fact is Bioware have given me thousands of hours of enjoyment, so I don't really want to complain too loudly about any specific game content.  Nothing is ever perfect, and it is only a game after all.

What I will say is that I believe that if ME3 had been released with the From Ashes and Citadel DLC included, together with the extended ending, there would have been much much less criticism overall.  The chase scene in the Citadel, where you can have your entire surviving crew spraying bullets from a balcony, while teasing Shepard about his/her existential crisis is one of the best things the whole trilogy has to offer, and it's a pity that relatively few people have seen it.

One last thing - Anderson - he was born in London you know!

What single thing did I hate most in each game? Hmm, let's see:

ME: Probably the fact that you can do every side quest, find every resource, kill every enemy on foot, and be a total XP-****** throughout the entire game, and still not reach level 60 on a single playthrough.

ME2: The changes to the gameplay mechanics: I like the idea of scanning planets for resources that you need for upgrades and the like, but all the "probing" is NO FUN AT ALL, especially when all you had to do in ME1 was click the "Survey" button; planetary exploration is completely GONE; a lot of the "hard" SF elements of the first game go right out the window; and don't even get me started on those @?$&!*%# thermal clips.

ME3: The writing. All the way through. There were some nice moments, but the plot as a whole was badly developed, and had so many conflicts with the established rules and history of the 'verse — even moreso than ME2 — that it feels like the developers just didn't care.
