Does anybody else recall that scene from ME2 in the Omega plague area where Shepard wanders into the apartment of a dead Turian and finds two human looters?  She proceeds to berate them about how wrong it is to steal from the dead and makes them promise to stop.

I always thought this scene was absolutely hilarious because of what an enormous hypocrite Shepard is.  I mean, my Shepard loots the hell out of pretty much every place she goes (and I imagine that is true of most people's Shepards).  Hell, not ten minutes prior to encountering these two ne'er-do-wells, my Shepard had busted into more than one locked apartment and grabbed anything that wasn't nailed down to the floor.  And yet she has the nerve to call these two guys out for their actions?

Hypocrisy, thy name is Shepard.

This point is so obvious that I can only assume the writers were using irony to shine a light on Shepard's tragic and constant struggle with her kleptomaniacal urges.  Well played, Bioware.  Well played.  :P

But Shepard isn't looking to loot.
My Shepard was there to make the place better, she saw stuff left behind as a reward for her services.
She was only there to do something to benefit the galaxy.

The looters were only there to loot.

I don't think Shepard's forced to be a hypocrite there. But you can if you want to.

I must admit, that thought had occurred to me while playing that scene. I suppose if I was seriously role playing a paragon, I should have refrained from rifling through every wall safe I came across, but the lure of loot was just too much to resist.

Yep.

And then there's that human couple who have an apartment on Omega.  You walk in and can convince them to flee to Mordin's clinic before they get killed.  Then you can help yourself to their conveniently unlocked safe once they're gone.  Even better, you can do so while they're still standing there!

tbh i think these people who claim to be "pure paragon" should stop stealing from the dead, hacking into every bank terminal they find, and stop reading peoples private datapads

I know she can threaten to kill them, but is it possible to actually pull the trigger?

Yes.

Take the bottom-right response.

You proceed to fight them like gameplay enemies, but they're really weak.

Huh.  I'll have to try that sometime.

What would the have used that money for; purple drink? Medi-gel? Off-yellow drink?

Mechanics observations can always be countered with more mechanics observations.

It's even worse because, IIRC, there's something you can loot right in that very room. Always got a kick out of that. But hey, I'm the protagonist and sucks to be everyone else.

It's for their best, because the Blue Suns could catch them looting. Since they are unarmed, you can imagine what could happen to them.

Shepard didn't scold the looters for being looters. S/he scolded them for looting. Which is what your Shepard does too, like it or not. And even if your Shepard thinks she deserves it, and she helps others while taking their stuff, Shep still loots. And s/he does it for both living and dead people, where those two looters took from the dead who aren't going to need this stuff anyway.

They were looting because they're looters, they purposedly went out on a mission to loot and get valuable items.
Shepard was merely passing through, if Shepard discovered nothing and just met the mission's goal then he would be satisfied with the outcome.
If the looters found nothing, they would be disappointed as they did not achieve their mission's goal of looting the loot.

They loot for personal profit, Shepard takes stuff that will help her/him save the galaxy.

I got a laugh out of it. I assumed it was intentional.

Still, I guess it made me leave something unlooted as well. Well played, I agree.

I noticed this as well and is something that I find rather disappointing from the Mass Effect games from an RPG perspective.  If you want to play a purely paragon character, it's difficult to justify looting  However, with credits being pretty scarce, looting is a pretty major way of earning credits.

More avenues for earning credits than looting, such as crafting, would be welcome.  That way the scene Big Bad is talking about wouldn't appear so ridiculous if playing a paragon player.

is that why he hacks into every bank terminal he finds and uses the money to buy fish?

What does it matter if a person loots because he passes through it or because he was looking for it? Either way, he took something that didn't belong to him. And it doesn't matter Shepard's reasons for looting, those people got their stuff stolen. THEIR stuff. Should a goverment take away and sell random civillians' houses for money profit because it "helps the country"? I think not.

Well the key differance is: I've got a Revenant.
