Still amazes me how a man with brittle-bone disease can become a pilot for the Alliance :-P

It was pretty good for a free comic, but I'm surprised that Cerberus was mentioned - did some parts of the Alliance know of them already at this point, or is it just a slip-up on the writer's part? Unfortunately, my first thought was the latter... Or maybe I'm missing something here.

Thanks for sharing! :-) I enjoyed it.

Top secret human-turian vessel has been stolen by cripple pilot. Later he has been assigned as a pilot of this vessel because "His plan was audacious, he ajusted to unexpected conditions and keept his cool under fire". Mac Walters strikes again. Good to know comic is free though.

Yeah, it's a bit silly, but I don't think it's supposed to be taken that seriously after all :)

I just realised the link isn't to Dark Horse directly and there's a thread in the Spoiler forum talking about the comic being free yesterday. If it's not free anymore, won't that make the above link kind of illegal?

Is it still possible to "buy" this? I can't find a download on the dark horse comic app or the iBook store

thanks for posting this, but I'd like to have access to it when I don't have internet access as well

Really? He steals the ship and they make him the pilot for it? By the most rigid, stick up their collective butts do it by the book or don't do it at all species in the galaxy?
How would one guy on crutches even steal the most advanced ship of two Council fleets?

Yay! Mac Walters continues to dismember the beauty of Mass Effect lore even after the ending. Mass Effect used to be plausible...now, it's just generic sci-fi with cut-out caricatures of characters instead of the complex personalities present in ME1 and for sections of ME2.

I have to concurr. This is the type of stunt that the main character in Michale Bay's Pearl Harbor did. Freaking Michael Bay.
We know that Joker suffered much prejudice due to his disease which is what made him strive to be the very best. Joker being one of the many candidates for piloting the Normandy, performing exceedingly well and shutting up the turian general would have transmitted the same message and it would have been far more mature and realistic than "Joker steals a military ship and plays chicken with human figthers and rather than being court martialed, he is given command of the Normandy."

I wish Drew Karpyshyn and Chris L'Etoile still worked on the Mass Effect franchise,,, I hate to see fictional military organizations being ran as 'pirate gangs' just because it's supposed to be 'cool'. In ME 1, there's nothing Joker says about committing such an act of mutiny and indiscipline in order to become the Normandy's helmsman. On the contrary, he graduated top of his class and got the job thanks to merit, not pity. Just my two cents.

Thank you for posting the link. I would have missed this one if I hadn't visiting the ME wiki today.

I liked. This was the kind of thing Joker would have done and anyone who thinks otherwise really need to pay more attention to the characters when playing or reading any ME stuff. (amazing the number of butt hurting even know after all this time).

Funny, I thought Cerberus was still part of the Alliance at this point.

And turians don't generally care for unorthodox tactics.

No one's commented on it being out of character, you're jumping on strawmen already.

Though to be honest, I'm on the verge of calling this a joke comic. It can't be serious.

If it's not a joke, it's utter trash.
I don't expect much of the comics in the first place (the track record is rather bad) but this manages to to drop the standards even further. I am sad and amazed at the same time.

"Joker:...and that was how I became pilot of the Normandy.
Shepard:...Yeah...No!
Joker: Aw, c'mon!
Shepard: No one in their right minds would believe that nonsense. Come up with something else, Joker."

And that's my headcanon.

Exactly!  Just write it off as another story Joker told at the bar to try and get free drinks from the bartender, and it's all good.

P.S. Mac Walters is still writing 'canon' stories for Mass Effect. I wonder if he just wanted to let us know HE is 'laughing best'.

+1

It's the only way that story makes any sense at all.

I liked the comic, but I agree with the others here. The pilot story works best as just that, a story to get free drinks. In "reality", Joker just studied and worked is butt off tenfold to get the position and used proper channels ith no resorting to stealing.

I don't believe it's supposed to be taken literally - hence the title.

Whilst Mass Effect is, effectivly, a Military Sci-Fi saga, as a result of the large, ever-expanding fanbase its developed and now maintains a somewhat-frivilous, 'Space Opera' edge more akin to a television series - which is why you see moments like those in the Citadel DLC.

So the 'Joker-Normandy' origin piece - which is free! - isn't necessarily an absolute. More, as some have already posited, a tale thrown out by Joker (BioWare/Walters) in order to either entertain/tease or gain some some kind of tasty beverage.
