Varric was and is still, my favourite character. Of any game, or other medium, ever. He was a genuinely nice guy, who I would love to know in real life. Gregarious, generous and supportive, and his chest mantle could make anyone swoon. 

I formally request the presence of our favorite wordsmith in Dragon Age: Inquisition. 

While it would be wonderful to have Master Tethras back as a party member, I could see another implementation where he takes up residence at a inn, ala The Hanged Man, and proceeds to titilate and scandalise the Orlesian public.
Reviews for his latest novel 'The Hung Man,' would be hung as banners all over town:

It appears as though even one as knowledgable as I can still be surprised. 'The Hung Man' is a triumph - Zevran

With his networking skills, Varric could easily become a valuable ally to the right Inquistor, or a needle in their side. He could be a one man quest hub, a source of entertainment and relaxation, and a business partner. More than that, he could be a confidant and friend outside of the party, someone to touch base with and discuss current affairs without bias or allegiance to factions. 

Also, interaction with Cassandra (with the assumption that she is a party member, of course) would be golden. 

And any opportunity to see more of Mary Kirby's writing is definately welcome

All the party dwarves need to be there. And I feel like I connected with Varric on a personal level and always appreciated his banter. He was my true voice to my companions. Anders/Fenris QUIT BROODING YOU EMOS, Affection and concern for Merrill, Distaste for Sebastian's pompousness etc...

He needs to be a party member, I'll accept no less!

I am inclined to agree - he's the primary reason I replay DA2, and from the first interaction I'm doomed to sarcastic!Hawke simply because their interactions are the greatest thing since Qunari cookies. I think there is so much potential for him in Orlais, and with Frostbite 3, the potential to make a truly magnificent chest-hair mane is enough to bring me to tears of joy .

I adore that fair lady too - despite being an insurmountable barrier to chesty dwarven lovin'. So many of my Hawke's pine away in vain...

Varric was the only good thing from DA2, but that doesn't mean he should be in DA3. I'd prefer new characters.

I had the same feeling. I loved the interactions with the other party members, particularly the banter between Varric and Isabela When it came down to the grain, Varric didn't bull****. He was straight up and honest when it mattered. 
I did love Oghren and Sigrun, but I don't really see how they could really make it to Orlais. Oghren has his daughter now -she could be anywhere between 10 - 20 depending on how many years have passed between DA2 and Inquisition. 
I'd love to see an older Varric too, a few lines at the edges of his eyes and the ghost of a smile always present.

Can you blame him? Varric still has not forgotten about the original Bianca from the time before he obtained Bianca.

Varric's great, but I like new companions even more so I'm not keen on having any returning ones. I wouldn't mind seeing him around as an NPC, not as a one-off cameo but maybe involved in a questline or two.

I agree, honestly. As I said in the OP, while it would be awesome to have him as a party member it would perhaps be better to see him in a more traditional NPC role. 
If nothing else, he could make 'go kill ten rabid nugs' sound like the final battle. I do think he'd be great at the Orlesian 'Game' though/

Can you blame him? Varric still has not forgotten about the original Bianca from the time before he obtained Bianca. 

That's one of my favourite things about him, honestly. It further underlines his loyalty, and speaks of a quiet vulnerability.  I'd love to learn more about HIM, because most of the interaction we got with Varric revolved around us or our companions.

Varric was probably the only NPC I really liked. I would love to see him make an appearance in DA3. Not as a companion, though.

Even if he doesn't return, he was a key figure in DA2 - he told the story! It would be great to see hints of his influence, nods to his growing reputation. Maybe chest hair becomes all the rage among Orlesian noblemen, and we see jeweled chest combs on display in boutiques.
Finding some of his books in stores too, getting to read excerpts of them in the codex (Maybe potential for another nod to Varricmancers there? 'The Champion and the Chessmaster' perhaps) would also be fantastic.

varic has a good chance I think cause he is very well liked and he wasn't an LI so he isn't gonna break your old game or have two different dialouge which is more money.
