Wow, somehow missed this thread.

 

I really, really hope Varric is a love interest. I was rooting for him to be one before DA2 came out, as well. I honestly can't see my first character romancing anyone but him.

Sady it's probably not to be. It's one thing to have a character say "I like women" and then have them also be romanceable to men, it's quite another to have a character say "I'm not into humans" and then make them romanceable to humans. With the limited resources the developers have at their disposal, I don't think they can really afford to make a racially exclusive romance, especially when the race that would be allowed to go through with the romance tends to be represented by a relatively small portion of the player base in the first place. 

 

But, until he's confirmed as not an LI, we can still hold out hope.

I'm thinking of it more like a shot.  I don't mind needles at all (I have tattoos), but shots simply hurt.  The waiting is the worst part.

 

I hope Varric is a romance option. Bioware needs to let us have their sexiest dwarf ever.

We all do, trust me.  Otherwise, my Lady Cadash might end up a little lonely.  Dwarf is the first race I plan on rolling in Inquisition.

About the "I'm not into humans", who knows, maybe Varric used that as an excuse to push Hawke away? If I remember well, he said that Isabella was hot or something similar.

Anyway, if Bioware throws an unrequired love scenario upon us, I hope my Inquisitor will have the possibility to stay cool and snarky about it. Ideally, if my Inquisitor is friend zoned by Varric early in the game, I would like their future interractions to be both a little infuriating and a lot funny whenever they talk again about that.

Now I imagine my face if toward the end of the game Varric realise that he did a huge mistake by staying faithfull to a fading memory instead of picking the real thing, and then ...bam the Inquisitor dies heroically (or not). :/

Varric is a self-described liar, and frequently fudged events he didn't want to talk about, or edited them to make better stories, like talking to Leandra's ghost if one did Legacy after she dies. 

 

There was a cut scene in which Varric tells Hawke:

 

Varric: I told her everything.

Hawke: Everything?

Varric: Don't worry, I left out the part about us...

 

It's possible he was trying to throw her off or avoid asking further questions. 

 

It's also possible he's not into humans/elves/dwarves/qunari, but he is into the inquisitor.

Can we have an "I love you" "I know" scenario if this happens? I'd love to make Varric the Leia to my Han Solo 

 

You're right though, he could have been lying about not being into humans, it's an easy excuse to get out of what could be a very uncomfortable situation, it'd be just like Varric to take that route.

Sadly, I see a lot of lonely ladies and men of the House Cadash being rather alone.

I think I can live with an either/or with Varric or Iron Bull.  I'll be satisfied if there's just one.  But I'll be real disappointed if it's neither.

Yeah.  I figure regardless if I can romance Varric (or anyone else) or not, I'm still after the Uber Edition.  So far, they haven't given me any real reason not to.  I'm just bummed, as I think many others in the thread are.

I know they've said they don't want to compromise their vision to pander, but a wise businessman looks at what their fans want and makes it happen.  If Varric was popular in DA2, it would be silly for them not to make him a LI here, or at least do a short, Aveline-style LI quest, and worse if they don't start branching out from humans and elves eventually.

Just looking at the game thus far, I think any LI scenario will be at worst a bummer, though nothing that will effect whether or not I buy the game. If there's an imbalance in the LI's somehow I'll be annoyed, but again won't be furious enough to withdraw my preorder, or even rage about it on the forums (though I probably wouldn't be able to resist the temptation to comment about it). 

 

The rest of the game looks awesome, there'll be plenty to keep me pleasantly occupies, even if not much is going on in the hanky panky department. Besides, Bioware gave me the class specialization of my dreams, what more could I ask for?

 

Not to mention they talked about emphasizing strong friendships, and who could be a more perfect character to form such a friendship with than Varric Tethras?

 

EDIT: Changed "at most a bummer" to "at worst a bummer" when I realized that the former implies I don't expect to be pleased with the LI situation, when in reality I fully expect to be happy with it, just like the previous games, and at worst will only find it mildly disappointing.

Honestly, I thought that ME already proved that women want to Captain Kirk it up as much as men do.  The more aliens and variety, the better.  Garrus was one of the most beloved romances in the game (Thane as well), and both were pretty far from human.
