Just looking at the game thus far, I think any LI scenario will be at most a bummer, though nothing that will effect whether or not I buy the game. If there's an imbalance in the LI's somehow I'll be annoyed, but again won't be furious enough to withdraw my preorder, or even rage about it on the forums (though I probably wouldn't be able to resist the temptation to comment about it). 

 

The rest of the game looks awesome, there'll be plenty to keep me pleasantly occupies, even if not much is going on in the hanky panky department. Besides, Bioware gave me the class specialization of my dreams, what more could I ask for?

 

Not to mention they talked about emphasizing strong friendships, and who could be a more perfect character to form such a friendship with than Varric Tethras?

It isn't about the LI system; I've gotten over that.  I'm disappointed a little bit because it was specifically Varric I wanted to have as a LI the most.  I married my best friend and we have a great combination of romantic love as well as a deep friendship.  I just like Varric as a person and he's someone I'd be attracted to in real life.  Again, I'll get over it, just disappointed.

 

Otherwise, the best of the game looks incredible and I'm eagerly awaiting more news.

To be fair, Garrus was the poster boy for ME1 and it was the only game he didn't get any love it. 

 

Honestly, I thought that ME already proved that women want to Captain Kirk it up as much as men do.  The more aliens and variety, the better.  Garrus was one of the most beloved romances in the game (Thane as well), and both were pretty far from human.

 

If anything I'd say that women might be even more willing to Captain Kirk it up. The least humanoid alien romance in all the ME games was, after all, a femshep exclusive LI.

I think there is some truth to this. If a character is endearing, charismatic, interesting enough I think women are more likely to be forgiving when it comes to appearance. And compared to characters like Garrus who is essentially (sorry Garrus!) a space dinosaur-cricket, the only "unconventional" thing about Varric's physical appearance is...his height.

 

When you realize that's the only thing making him the "exotic" choice it sounds really silly. Actually the more I think about it , it's ridiculous , it's just a few feet , who cares!

Pretty much all my female family members and friends agreed they would kick legolas out the way to get some Thorin XD.

I think that's pretty true.  While I can't say for sure whether or not Kaidan's fans outnumber Thane's and Garrus', I have certain noticed than Thane and Garrus lovers tend to be a bit more vocal and passionate for it.  Certainly both look less traditionally appealing than Liara or Tali. 

Varric next to Thane and Garrus is nothing.  XD  Even a Qunari (please be romanceable, IB) would be more "human" than either of them.

They can have their broody Thorin, I'll stick with my adorable Bofur. Personally I prefer it when you don't have to dig around for your LI's fun and loving personality, which it's why I love Varric so, sure he's got some dark parts, but you can always have some fun with him if you need a breather working through each other's emotional issues. Broody LI's just tend to be intense all the way through. Which is fine/awesome for some, but not my personal cup of tea.

That article where the devs said they weren't going to bring back romanced followers from previous games as companions got me thinking... Maybe it's Varric's turn to be an LI? I'm not surprised to see him in the game, but I thought he would have a cameo or a quest. Very surprised to see him back as a companion for a second time.

I may have squealed out loud when I saw Varric in the trailer. Though in my case, I definitely expected that. He looks amazing!

 

I don't hold out too much hope of him being a LI but if he is, I'm going to be SUPER torn over who I want to choose!

So, Varric is my number one hope for a love interest. I was already intrigued about him pre-DA2... but his personality throughout the game made me fall in love. I couldn't care less about height; heck, my husband is four inches shorter than me. 

 

I still remember my poor Sarcastic Hawke - who wanted him so badly - getting shot down (and she later settled for Anders, and we all know how THAT little love story played out! trololol).

That being said, unless the beans about LI or not for him get spilled pre-release, I'm definitely playing a dwarf Inquisitor in the hopes Varric is finally available. If he isn't, my first playthrough may very well be Forever Alone Inquisitor™.

 

But if he isn't done pining after Bianca's memory for 10+ years, then I at least hope we're given the opportunity to find her and reunite them, if she is still alive and hasn't moved on herself. Really, I just want poor Varric to finally be happy. Am wiling to sacrifice my Inquisitor's first choice to make that happen, if need be.

We don't quite know Varric's full backstory with Bianca, it could potentially be more complicated than that (I don't know how, but it could be). Still I would like to be able to meet this mysterious Bianca who's had so much of an impact on Varric's life. Fade Bianca in the comics doesn't count. I do hope that if Varric isn't a romance for the inquisitor, we can either get him back with Bianca, or set him up with someone else (I'd love to do a "find Varric a date" quest). I know not everyone's character arcs have to end in marriage and family to be happy endings, but Varric's been such a good dad to so many people, I want to see him with kids of his own.

Yeah, that's why I find it odd that there is this 100% certainty everywhere that it's going to be all bunnies and rainbows if/when Varric meets Bianca again. It's Dragon Age and one thing I've learned from the series is that reunions aren't always happy ones or ones we expect. See Gorim (if romanced), Alistair's sister, Fenris's sister etc Just to be clear, I'm not saying this because I'm hopeful for Varric to be a love interest! I'm cool if it turns out we are bringing them together again. But I'm also aware it's been 10 years and that a lot can change in a decade apart. That's why when I read "Varric can't be romancable , what about Bianca?!" I have to ask why are they so sure a Bianca reunion will automatically result in them getting back together? Not saying it won't! Just that it's not a certainty.

I might be nitpicking here, but it looks like his hair still isn't blonde. It still looks reddish to me. I've seen people cheering about his adjusted hair color, but I can't see it.

Varric appears in the trailer when it's night-time, so it's still not clear how much they changed the colour. But from what I can tell, they definitely put in light blonde highlights. His hair is still darker than it was in DA2 but not that flat red colour in the screenshots anymore.

Hey friends! I haven't been on the forums for over a year because, well, life got in the way, but this new trailer has me super excited so I dug out my password and came back. I'm loving the new forum, and of course, all the detail shots of Varric we've been given   Seriously, it should be illegal for a character to be that darn attractive. 

When I saw his chest-hair, all my buried emotions came rushing back to the foreground. What my Inquisitor will give to run their fingers through that magnificent mane...

I really am holding out for him being a LI. I wanted him to be one in DA2 but was very much shot down.I know him being one is unlikely but I want him for my female dwarf inquisitor  Varric is the only dwarf I have ever wanted to romance.

I'm pretty sure Bianca is dead, and that it said so in the comic.  They were trying to escape Orzammar and she died in the attempt.

No. A while back Mary Kirby responded to a discussion about her and said that Bianca isn't necessarily dead. Maybe Varric changed his mind and didn't runaway with her. Maybe she left him. The only thing we know for sure is that Varric and Bianca didn't get away from the guild.

Just went back and checked. Varric and Bianca were trying to get away from the Merchants Guild, a surface organization. While it's not 100% clear what happened,  it's hinted that Varric was, in the end, too loyal to his family to leave, and Bianca was too free-spirited to stay, thus leading to their separation.

Alternately, it was made clear to Varric that if he tried to run away with Bianca, the Guild would harm her. That's my theory, anyway.
