Mmm, Varric.
There is that possibility that Varric might not be romancable. Wasn't that hinted in one of the recent articles?
Cameron said, paraphrasing, that he was still hung up on Bianca.
This is from the romance thread. Anyone know what this article is? I'd like to read it myself since there's so much second-hand info floating around.

The Varric stuff is at the end of the interview
I'm gonna interpret what Cameron said as "romancing Varric is a little harder than other LIs". ![]()

That's the theory. He sounds like he's saying, "I can't tell you the answer...but it's no." Something about the paradox of that suggests it's not that simple.
well, if he gave hawke nicknames in mota or was it legacy, he could definitely give one to the inquisitor... i believe the names were chuckles for funny hawke, killer for mean hawke... and i can remember the nice hawke one off the top of my head
Waffles for diplomatic Hawke.
I bet Varric won't give nickname to Cassandra, like Aveline.
He calls her seeker. At least that's what he called her in PAX demo.

The wording made me think this too, it's the kind of double speak that makes me believe it's actually a yes
I sure hope you're right!
Maybe the nickname depends on the race/class combo?
It would be so awesome if this were the case.
YES! Waffles, I completely forgot! Next on the list is pancakes... Let it be known here and now that the diplomatic inquisitor shall hence forth be nicknamed "pancakes" by varric
I interpreted that interview answer to be "Varric is an LI but we can't tell you that now because that isn't fun so we're going to crush your hopes and dreams to a teeny tiny pulp by trolling you." I hope so.
Anyway, since everyone's bringing up Garrus comparisons, here's something I commissioned from Aimo during my first ever convention.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for this ![]()
Technically, he saved Hawke the first time they met, too. It was from a pickpocket, but still.
I cannot wait for this game. I love me some Varric!
So... I'm sure these have been posted before, but.
I stumbled across these and they just killed me. XD
Admittedly, I wish these speculative harlequin romances were in game items, penned by Varric himself under a wide array of psuedonyms to cover his ass. You could bring the books to him and it could prompt special conversations.
Oh, yes. I would love to bring up his books. Maybe we'd even get the chance to ask him to sign them? We could be fangirls in universe and out!
I'm kind of hoping they'll give another nod to the forum and have it be "Quizzy" or some such.
So, do you think this time around it will be Varric who saves PC? There's a moment in the trailer when Inquisitor gets up from the ground in Varric's scene.
It does look like Varric has just rescued the Inquisitor in that scene. It would be awesome if that's how Varric makes his entrance in DA:I, and how he and the Inquisitor first meet.

I'd like a good reason to rival Varric for a change (not necessarily full rival, but have more difficulties). He's very easy to build rapport with in DA2.. which is cool.. but I don't want another "bro" thing going on. It's already been done.
