He does look very scrumptious...needs more chest hair revealed though.

I think I'm the only one out there who prefers the red neckerchief. I've always associated neckerchief's with dogs, and therefore associate them with loyalty and friendship, aspects that suit Varric perfectly. It's also nice to see Varric visually tied to characters like Merrill, Aveline, and Bethany, who all sported their own version of the neckerchief.

Wow... that fits him surprisingly well. Use to follow another great leader? Check. Loves telling stories? Check. Has faith in the new leader almost immediately? Check (assuming he takes to the Inquisitor the same way he took to Hawke).  Makes me feel like there might be some truth to this "last supper" theory. The other characters also seem to fit their respective apostles fairly well, just considering what we do know of them.

FINALLY! I can be part of a Varric tread! I just love that dwarf to bits and pieces^^ Several of my femHawkes went pining away for him... *lol*

Anyway, reason for writing this post: I'm not sure if anyone has noticed that yet, but that red cloth does look eerily similar to the cloth on the Hawke armour... Maybe that's just the fangirl in me talking, but that's what I thought when I watched the trailers through again *gg* I mean, theoretically (<- big emphasis here!) even though Varric was not an LI in DA2, it could be that Hawke gave the scarf to him when they parted ways... Does that really sound as cliché as I feel it does???

Anyway, thats my thought for the day...

Really glad I found this thread, I grow weary of the constant battles over why Cullen is the hottest Templar ever (which he isn't by the way^^) and this thread and all it's predecessors (did I even write that correctly?!) is a nice constant of calmness on a rough sea of anger that is the BSN on a daily basis *gg* Actually, I originally joined the BSN to have a chance to gush over Varric with other people^^ My friends are getting tired of the topic I think *lol*

Regards, CarrionFowl

Nice to meet you CF!

I really like the idea of Varric having some kind of memento of Hawke. He was friends with him/her for 10 years so really it's not so cliché at all. And don't forget all the gift-giving that goes on in the dragon age series anyway ^_^ the scarf could have just been the last gift Hawke gave before he/she disappeared.

Don't worry about gushing over our favourite Dwarf, we don't get tired of talking about him either ^_0

Nope, not alone! I really like it, too, actually. Very dashing on him, I think. :)

Varric was and is still, my favourite character. Of any game, or other medium, ever.

That saddens me, as Varric is a complete Garrus ripoff.

How you figure? Garrus is a Cowboy Cop who tires of working within the system and strikes out on his own as a vigilante. Varric is a Lovable Rogue and information broker with a flair for storytelling and "embellishment" (ie. bullshit).

The only traits they share is playing the best friend role to the PC (and that's debatable in Garrus' case) and having somewhat unique outlooks among members of their races.

It kinda sounds like Garrus is the kind of guy that Varric would base his Hard in Hightown novels on, including the phrase, "He's getting too old for this sh*t."

Well, the "getting too old for this ****" line is usually reserved for the By the Book Cop who plays as a foil to the Cowboy Cop and urges his younger partner to follow the rules, but the CC can drop the line if he is indeed getting on in years and just wants to enjoy his retirement.

Garrus is a bit too young for that. He has many years of playing by his own rules AND GETTING RESULTS ahead of him.

Happy to be here^^ Things are much more civil here than in any of the other threads^^ I like me a calm forum to be in *gg*

Thankfully it wasn't as cliché as it sounded, I really should not write posts before I had my 1st cup of coffee *lol* It was just something that struck me when I saw the trailer (though I didn't pay attention to such minor details the first few hundred times *lol*) and it does seem like a nice way of remembering Hawke. Plus, I'm pretty sure he was completely bullshi**ing Cassandra when he said he didn't know where Hawke was^^ Personally I think Varric could find out the colour of the Divine's underclothes if he wanted, he's certainly capable of keeping track on one person *gg*

I'm really happy to be here, at least here I won't get weird looks because I gush all over an amazingly sexy chesthaired dwarf *gg* Even though I'm slowly bringing the doubters to our side, especially since the new trailer *lol* And I personally like the new look *gg*

Sincerely, CarrionFowl

Mmm... Varric is looking mighty fine in the trailer. I think the improved graphics have finally done that boy justice. He looks much closer to his concept art now.

That's why it's called "Creative License!"  A lot of what I've heard about Garrus sounds like a character Varric would write, only he'd take liberties with it.  Too close to an actual person and you might have to give them royalties for likeness.   Or I could see Garrus being the one to be the reason why Donnic would make that famous comment. :P

I also know exactly where that line comes from.  Child of the 80s here and I've also spent far too much time learning my tropes.   ;)

Isn't the 'Getting too old for this sh*t' thing from "Die Hard"? I kind of have a feeling that it might be... Gods, I've watched those nearly to death, but I can't remember...

My favourite character in any game ever is Alistair, but second to that it's Varric... I'll be happy with a comical flirt here or there like we had in DA2, I actually loved the friendship dynamic between He and Hawke, yes, he's the Garrus of DA (in the friendship sense) and I'd be lost without one of those to be honest...

I never liked Varric's specialty being "marksmen."  I thought "bard" fit him better, and "storyteller" better than that.  All of the abilities in that slot are all storytelling- or song-based.

I had a reaction similar to Fix-it Felix Jr

"Look at that high definition...his face..."

I actually think Garrus and Varric's personalities might clash a bit. I adore Garrus but let's not forget how uptight the guy can be in ME1. Sure both are willing to bend the rules to do what they believe is right but Garrus's definition of rule bending is police brutality (he talks about roughing up a suspect in ME1) and Varric is more of a bribe the guards/talk your way out of it kind of guy. As I recall you can earn rivalry from Varric by being violent while Garrus frequently encourages it.

I have a feeling he will be a LI as well, if he isn't I will be sad but then again that's what fan fiction is for! I already have ideas of how to go about it in my current fanfic  :D

Have any of you seen this lovely new Varric/Cadash artwork by Aimo? It makes me both want to play as a dwarf inquisitor and romance Varric even more than I already wanted to. Just in warning, it may be slightly NSFW:

Eh, just a little side boob.  I've seen more side boob just looking at a pic of Morrigan!  :P

That was a very sweet series of pics though.  Aimo is just amazing.

Oh! Very cute as always.

I'm still hardcore shipping Varric with a Qunari Inquisitor though.

I know, I love Aimo's art. :)

I can't completely decide which race of the Inquisitor I most would like to romance with Varric, considering that I'm torn between playing a dwarf and an elf. I really want to romance Varric with a dwarf inquisitor, but at the same time I also kind of love the idea of Varric with a Dalish inquisitor, lol.

Here's to hoping Varric is a romance option, and for all Inquisitors.
