Wow!  The chain around his neck is stunning!  It actually looks like a separate piece rather than a grafted bit to hide the neck seam.  And the shading is magnificent--it truly looks metallic.  Again, I have to applaud this graphics engine.

In case anyone doesn't know already, 5 very special lithos were handed out to 5 special Bioware youtubers (Why does that sound like an intro to Captain Planet? LOL) . To thank them for all their support and enthusiasm. It's a shot of the Inquisition table except it's at and angle and only Cullen and Varric are facing the camera. This was interesting to me and made me think that Varric and Cullen were put in the forefront for a reason *cough*they'rebothromancable*cough*. Although it could be that they are the most popular right now

I like to think he's popular but he isn't "new" so this thread isn't as busy as the others.

As EPIC as varric is I can understand why he isn't as popular as cullen or anyone else!  If he is revealed to be LI I am sure his fandom will explode! (doubt he is, but heres hoping). If he isnt a LI then I am sure when we get to know him better in DAI I am sure he will be up there with cullen and everyone else.

I think it's partly because people already know so much more about him, that there isn't all the mystery and speculation that the other characters have. I love Varric to bits as a character, but I'm perhaps a little bit more content to 'wait and see' with him because I'm already sure he's going to be awesome

Personally, I hope he's not a love interest. (Sorry fandom). He spent 10 years wtih Hawke as their closest friend so it'd be strange to me if he ended up with the Inquisitor during the timeframe of Inquisition.

 

Though, I might be mollified if he's a dwarf-exclusive love interest/they have him get over Bianca in a well-done manner.

To be fair, I'm eagerly praying for a Varric romance, but I'd personally prefer it if he were either dwarf exclusive or difficult to romance due to having to navigate the drama with Bianca. I think it'd make his romance more interesting if it were harder to get to.

Well I politely disagree with the dwarf exclusiveness.

Varric said he wasn't into humans true, but he said nothing about not being into elves or qunari. And I believe he'd look just darling with a qunari.

I'm not sure why it would be strange. I have close friends who I'm not attracted to. I know I'm the minority, but I would like to Varric being an exclusive for non-human Inquisitors. Just to have something non-human exclusive this time around.

That's what I thought too. Just because he spent 10 years with Hawke doesn't mean an Inquisitor romance wouldn't make sense. It doesn't matter how long you hang around someone , if you're not into them you're just not into them. It sounded more like a "Hawke" thing rather than a human thing though. I imagined Varric thought of Hawke like family so when he/she flirted with him he would brush them off with jokes about Bianca and about not being into humans. It was his way of saying he just wanted to be friends.

I wouldn't drastically restrict a potential romance based on one throwaway joke Varric made. I agree if there is a romance it should fit Varric's character and it should be difficult to navigate but I don't think it should be dwarf only. That said I have no problems with preferences. Maybe a mage will have a bit more of a challenge wooing Cullen for example or maybe a non-dwarf Inquisitor will have to work a little harder with Varric.

I'm totally pro race/class exclusive content in regards to everything EXCEPT romance options. I do like the idea of the romances playing out differently. I think I'm one of a small number of players who liked the fact that you could only marry Alistair as a human noble so I'm totally down for more stuff like that.

That's also what I like. I like differences. I wouldn't expect Varric to make the same type of comments to a dwarf Inquisitor as he would, say, a qunari Inquisitor. But the reason I'd rather the party/advisor romances not be race exclusive is because the DAI system won't be like DA2 this time. Since there will already be romance restrictions , I just don't want more restrictions on top of them.

I wouldn't have minded if there was an equal different content for the others races. (a militar marriage in Warden armour at the Alienage/Dalish clan/mage tower/Orzamarr would have made me truly happy, much more than the Queen thing) but as it was in DAO, it almost feel a punishment to playng a different origin than the HN, since you had to be careful and study a very well planned metagame to not end the relationship with Alistair. U_U

I actually quite like race restricted contents. I adds to it's.. "uniqueness". Like, the only way to marry Anora you needed to be an male human noble. All other races and origins were blocked out of this option. So I think it would be pretty interesting if Varric can only be romanced by an female Cadash Inquisitor.

I understand it too. I was just very baffled by the fact that there weren't any "altenative" content at the royal marriage, nor something alternative to became a ruler. It would have been appropriate. True at the end we see the Warden is given the chance to have a position in their respective origin, but it was quite rushed.

You make a very valid point, I change my statement to Dwarf and Qunari exclusive, because everyone, even Varric, wants a bit of the Q.

I actually never understood why the Dwarven Nobel couldn't somehow finagle their way on to the throne. I mean yeah they're from a different race, but they were actually a prince/princess before they were wrongfully thrown out of their society, and it's not like Fereldan hates the dwarves in the same way they hate elves and Orlesians.
