The veil breaks over the Inquisition base; Morrigan, Leliana, and Cullen are all in danger, and you can only save 2.
Cullen, bye bye.
But if in Inquisition is at least a little better...Leliana take his place.
by the way, I hate sacrifice my characters and companions. expecially when there isn't a way to prevent it. One of the funny thing about replayng a game is tryng to find differents outcomes. That's why the suicide mission in ME2 was great. What would happen to X character if I decide to not do (or doing bad) his personal mission, or sending him to do a different thing during the final mission?
I liked Mordin's departure in ME3. I must admit. I would have loved to save him. But him ending up on that elevator is the consequence of previous choices I've made. I can't say the same for Thane. Or Legion.
I believe a inavoidable death make the death of the character/companion a way to devalue the fact. ME3 endings are devalued because I can't have a really different outcome for my characters. The first time can give feels, but the second or third time is just boring angst.
And a death that's the consequence of a choice have the guilt bonus for the moment to give even more emotional impact. I felt incredibly guilty when I lost some companions on my first ME2 run.
