Varric is such a good guy- all the bribes he put out to keep the party members safe, implied pay offs to templars to keep Anders and Merrill safe, helping Hawke. . .

I maintain that the best, and really damn near only, clue that Varric will be a romance option is that they clearly tried to make him more atractive in this game.

 

He wasnt ugly in DA2, but the definitely prettied him up a bit.

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!!!  Sexy Wiked Grace sounds AMAZING!!!!  I am thinking of one of those romance covers we did way back when.  Remember those?  Maybe we need another round...
 

That aside- my favorite line of the interview- the one which has given me the most hope- is this one:

Oh no?  Perhaps it shall be the love of my roguish Lady Cadash which shall help see him through then???

 

As an aside, while I can't decide whether I think Varric will actually be heavily race-gated (i.e. dwarves only) or not, I think that he may not be willing to romance a Qunquisitor- even if he/she is actually a Tal Vashoth.  Don't get me wrong, I think the Kossith/Varric pairing is adorable (though not as much as I love the idea of my gal from Cadash ending up as his sweetie ); I just think that we are going to see a side of Varric that is new to us- maybe some biases which have come into play due to the events of DAII and the subsequent apocalypse which Thedas is currently teetering on the edge of.

There needs to be a contest at some point. Not sure how they would judge though. In Manly Guys they used balloons, but I don't think Thedas has balloons.

It'd be a very nice little "easter egg" for what is probably going to be one of the least played character combos. But then again, it is one of the least played character combos, would Bioware really make an entire romance exclusive to it? That's a lot of effort for something only a very small portion of players will see.

I loved that part of DA2. As a whole, despite the problems I loved DA2.

I'm also keeping my fingers crossed for Varric LI. That being said, if it doesn't happen I won't be terribly upset. The game won't lose it's value and while I'll be a bit disappointed, having an LI I like isn't the reason in playing this game.

Just saying As someone who's favorite origins were the Dwarven ones , I would love the first Dwarven LI in dragon age to be someone as awesome as Varric who was my favorite DA2 character.

I totally agree, why make him the best looking guy (with an awesome personality to boot) in the game (imo) and not make him a love interest I mean bioware wouldn't be cruel like that!.....wait yea they would TOO CRUEL

I think he was paying the Coterie to stay away from Anders and Merrill, not the templars.

I would be ripping my hair out at this point, that is if I had not shaved my head

 

We now know that Sera and Iron Bull have been confirmed.

 

So hopefully that pattern is to reveal one more female and one more male, until we reach 6-8 LIs in total...

I totally agree, I am tired of only human and elf LI's (not that I still don't love my Alistair and fenris), I just hope that bioware isn't cruel and withholds varric from us as a LI! I mean he has the potential for a very emotional and deep romance! (imo) He has a great personality and they made him look 10x  better then he did in DA2! I mean if he is raced gated (as in dwarf only) then that's fine with me!

He was paying the Coterie; however, it also only follows that someone was keeping the templars from the apostate mage in Lowtown and the sudden Dalish elf who, let's face it, isn't the most incognito mage in history.

True, however Varric is reasonable, too- seeing what Meredith did, he can never agree with Anders actions, but understand why a mage might go nuts over their treatment? Definitely. Add in the Seekers kidnapping him, taking Bianca, and interrogating him. . . yeah, he's not likely to be "woo Chantry," either.
