I personally think it's sweet that nobody can take Bianca's place in his heart.
A crossbow is much more suited to being picked up and used as a weapon. Most women don't take too kindly to that.

I was referring to Bianca the woman and you know it. ![]()

My point stands, lol.

Sweet? Yeah.
Making me feel really salty? Also yeah. :S
Gonna hide Bianca while Varric sleeps.
Exaltation was never seen or heard from again. We'll commemorate your memory.
Plus, Cass could be the one refusing to get along with Varric, not because Varric is being rude or unfriendly towards her (minus his usual snark.) I'm betting you could make a drinking game out of the number of times Cass told Varric, "Bullshit" or "You're hiding something from me, I know it," or various lines along that theme in DA2. She probably still doesn't trust Varric very much at all. It's a friendship I'm hoping we get to see evolve throughout the game.
Edit: I forgot to add the very last line from Varric's character blurb:
Can't blame him there.
Yeah, these are all good points! Mary Kirby's choice of words-- "he'll at least try to get along with everyone, except Cassandra"-- is what caught my attention, because it strongly implies Varric not making an effort to get along, but it could easily go both ways. Still, it surprised me because they obviously made the conscious choice of traveling together at some point, so after spending so much time together with only each other... it just gave me the impression that they're getting along to some degree, that there's at least some hint of a friendship, you know? This of course just brings up the question of why, exactly, did they chose to do that if there was still resentment/bitterness and mistrust, which is a question that hopefully will be answered in the game eventually. Anyway, their relationship evolving is something I would really like to see too. I think they'll have pretty fun interactions in the party banters.
The Tiny Varric series is probably the best thing/meme created by Tumblr.

I think they're working together out of necessity. They both want to end the chaos (who wouldn't?) and cooperating makes that goal more likely to be realized.
As much as I would like Varric and Cassandra to be friends (who knows, it might still happens), it does make sense that they aren't. Cassandra is a no non-sense hardass. If you remember in DA2, acting tough, aggressive and humorless all the time gets you rivalry points with Varric.

Someone once descibed Varric as the Fonze of dwarves- now that we have this pickup line pic- we need someone to do one with him going "Ehhhh!" and giving the trademark double thumbs or guns.

Perfect
I'm admittedly not very fond of the whole 'Varric should never be happy with anyone ever again because Bianca' line of thinking either. I think he should be able to develop a bit and move on this game.
I'll second this.
I'm just not fond of that type of story line in general. It's just overdone. I would rather Bianca go back to just being a really awesome crossbow...the long lost love story is the one thing that I don't care for about Varric...

It could certainly be argued that the 'moving on' storyline's just as overdone or even more overdone.

Hmmm... I'm torn. I think its sweet, and very "Varric" to not be able to let go of the story of himself and Bianca. He's a romantic, after all. On the other hand, I really want to get to know Varric beyond the surface jokes and distractions, and often intimacy is the best way to do that. For my Cadash's sake, I hope he's able to move on to something new, but I won't be too heartbroken if it just turns out that Varric has no room left in his heart for a Lady Love, as long as we see some kind of charachter development... and as long as the game doesn't end with him doing the equivalent of planting a bomb in the Chantry
.

I'm not really a fan of either to be honest. I did say I'd rather Bianca be just a crossbow.
I don't want to hear someone mope about their ex. It's very off putting.

In the Crestwood demo (from last year), Cassandra is trying to comfort Varric and he looks all pissed off about it...but then Cassandra pretty said to let the village burn, so, hmm, they just have incompatible point-of-views.
