I'm not really a fan of either to be honest. I did say I'd rather Bianca be just a crossbow.  

I don't want to hear someone mope about their ex. It's very off putting. 

Varric has never, ever moped about his ex. It took a fade sequence in a comic book for us even to confirm she existed.

I know, what I'm trying to get across is that I hope that behavior continues. If Varric is an LI, I don't want his romance to be about "fixing" him, or the focus of the romance to be on helping him get over Bianca.

Well Varric does have baggage, except he doesn't really lug it around so it never comes into play, lol. It's more like emotional security box. I hope Varric would bring up Bianca if romanced (and if romancable), but not in a sappy lets-hug-the-pain-away way. I'd want it as just another of his stories, but one closer to his heart than the others, something he has already come to terms with (emotional development already existing in a character! Sacrilege, our protagonist must be the instrument of change!).

I'm still wondering if there will be any consequences if you let him keep the shard of red lyrium. They might just fob it off as saying "I got rid of that as soon as I saw what it did to meredith" or...maybe he'll have some issues if you let him keep it in da2.

I'm fine with bringing her up and discussing her but I don't want it to be the focus. And yeah I like the way you stated it. That's sort of what I'm looking for too if Bianca is going to be discussed. 

 

What I don't want is for a plot where I have to "fix" Varric. I'm not interested in having an LI who has severe emotional issues, it's why I didn't enjoy the Anders or Fenris romances. 

 

I'm concerned because sometimes writers feel that throwing in drama and hardcore emotional baggage makes a love story more interesting, and yeah sometimes that can work. But people seem to forget that two people simply being happy and in love can be a wonderful love story as well. 

 

That said, I don't believe Varric has baggage, he's got a few dents and scuffs but he's still Varric.

One of my scripts, which might be on this thread some pages back, suggests that Varric shows intimacy to the inquisitor by telling her Bianca's story. Aside from that, or maybe telling a dwarfquisitor that she reminds him of Bianca, I wouldn't want to have him bring it up too often, especially in a romance.

Similarly this also happens with dwarves. Subsequently elves mating with humans is considered traitorous by the rest of their kind and any elf who conceives a child with a human risks expulsion from their community.

 

A child between a dwarf and a human is a half-dwarf, which would be taller than dwarves but shorter than humans. Such children are extremely rare, as dwarves are comparatively few in number and those living underground are reclusive to outsiders; mating with other species would bring great shame to the dwarf as well as their family. In addition, the dwarven fertility rate is very low due to the close proximity to the darkspawn taint for many generations.
