I can agree with that reasoning. But how would he know that the red lyrium would go even further than Meredith?

Well, he doesn't need to have predicted anything. Since Inquisition follows DA2, he just needs to hear about abuses being commited by the Red Templars.

Or, he could potentially be brought on by Cassandra. This is all somewhat variable depending on how the Inquisition is formed and who the Inquisitor's earliest allies are.

I just noticed Zevran's quote about the Hung Man, and for some reason, instead of picturing the sign of the man hung upside down outside the tavern, I pictured a man who was very well endowed.

...Maybe the tavern is supposed to have a double meaning? And since Varric lives there, maybe there's some hidden innuendo.

The tavern is called The HANGED Man, not The Hung Man. It's the latter that's an innuendo.

If a man is well-hung, he has a big junk. If a man is well hanged, then his public execution was carried out swiftly and without complications - none of that awkward gasping for air and wild flailing of limbs.

I liked Varric but he had his flaws. He literally seemed to despise Sebastian but was all too eager to defend a blood mage in league with a demon (Merrill) and Anders himself (an extremist). But then, his jokes and chilled out attitude often reminded me of myself and at heart, Varric is a good guy (and probably one of the sanest companions) despite being a man about making profit and gold.

Still, Alistair, Nathaniel and Fenris remain the best bros in my opinion.

Probably. Looks like an old thread that got revived, meaning it was buried in the depths of this forum when they plonked all the old threads over to the new forum software.

 

Jessica or a mod will have to move it to the appropriate subcategory.

 

Otherwise, happy to finally see a Varric thread revived to join all the other DA:I character threads.
