I think back to the days before ME2 came out when no one believed they would ever make Garrus a romance either. That's why I haven't given up hope just yet. Not only was Garrus a turian (by far the most...unconventional, looking LI to date) but he was also the "bro" character, a friend ,who had yet to express any interest towards Shepard. No way Bioware would ever entertain such a suggestion right? But because so many fans loved him Bioware took a chance and he turned out to be one of the most popular romances in the Mass Effect series. Now, the DA series has yet to try something similar. 2 games and there hasn't been a dwarf or qunari romance. If ANYONE was going to be the first dwarf LI I couldn't think of a better character than Varric. He's already very popular, it's no secret many find him attractive so they've pretty much done the groundwork already.

 

So the main issue seems to be the Bianca business. Here's my 2 cents. We don't know how the Bianca plot will play out. It could very well be that the Inquisitor can only be friends with him (a shame) and reuniting him with Bianca is his subplot. Or maybe it's not so simple, maybe things have drastically changed and his memories of Bianca no longer match the person she is today. The point is we don't know. And other characters having past loves haven't stopped them being romances (Thane, Kaidan, Steve, Carth) Granted most of the examples have deceased husbands/wives but the point still remains. I'm hoping for the best but also preparing myself for another friendzone  Hopefully we'll be put out of our misery before the game's release.

He was one of the few things that made me finish DA2 (and the only motivation I would start again just before I'll get DAI.) even if maybe a good part of my love was something similar to a Stockholm syndrome, since I couldn't like much the others characters

And here I was trying so hard to avoid falling for the roguish, charming chestliness that is Varric. Again.

And then the second I hear Brian Bloom's voice I let out the most embarrassing squeal in the history of embarrassing squeals. I've got excellent self-control, I swear.

If he turns out to not be an LI, he truly is BioWare's master plan for attaining their required sustenance of fan tears.

It should be a crime to make a bunch of pixels THAT good looking, seriously. I'm hoping the sexy makeover is a sign that Varric is a romancable character this time around. If not, Bioware have a cruel sense of humour. I mean just look at him! On a non-fangirly note, can I just say how impressed I am with his facial animations? The lip-syncing and expressions are much better than any Bioware game character animation I've seen so far. He said 2 lines but I already can see such an improvement.

Based on some articles I read ... The outlook is not so good.

If not the Inquisitor, can I at least hook him up with a real flesh-and-blood girl? This crossbow love is not healthy.

Or at least just mention Bianca directly and stop with referring to his crossbow?  If it's a lost love, we can deal with it.  Just be straight with us, and at least tell us why a perfectly attractive dwarf (Lady Cadash, reporting in!) would be off limits in the wake of someone he hasn't seen in at least 10-12 years or so.

 

I came in for a few to partake in the drooling over Varric..  I also came to partake in the morning.  The chances of my best friend coming my best friend and lover are slipping day by day.

 

Yes, I think you can have both.  As a favorite author of mine once said: Being best friends is the only way to be lovers.  Staying best friends is the only way to be married.  I've been married for 8 years and I found this to be completely true.  So...why can't I be Varric's LI?

My hopes of Varric being a romanceable peaked and then crashed sometime yesterday after some digging.  I still have some hope, but it's very small.  Which is probably the healthiest outlook.  It'll mean I'll be even more amped if I'm wrong.  ;D

 

But I swear, if neither him nor the Iron Bull is romanceable and it's just Elves and Humans again, I will sadface.  Still hopefully enjoy the other romances.  But sadface so hard.

My small sliver of hope is that this simply means that romancing him will be difficult, perhaps requiring a softer touch.  And that it may have bittersweet elements to it.  Honestly, I'd settle for bittersweet, or even a platonic romance for whatever reason as I long as I get in some dwarf smoochies.

 

But again, hopes are low.  :/

See...he says he can't answer that and then seems to shut us down.  "I can't give you an answer, but the answer is no," is what I hear, which makes me wonder if he is, in fact, a love interest.
