As the title implies I've returned to playing Mass Effect 3 after about a six month hiatus. It's given me cause to take a look at this game from a more objective view point to find that while I personally hold deep reservations with some of what was done with a couple of the characters, overall I enjoyed the game. I even discover that I found a rather enjoyable multiplayer attached to it, which is a true treat given my typically dim view of multiplayer overall.
So the question of what led me to stop playing the game? It never angered me to the point where I felt compelled to HIT something as some other games have, never did anything to truly destroy my enjoyment of the game. In the end it was this, the forums, and the hatred and vitriol that are spewed here at anyone who disagrees, however politely. Whether it was my irritation at them having taken a genuinely sexy female Marine in Ashley and turned her into a sexdoll with an assault rifle shoved into her hands or a simple WTH is this holographic armor? The response was never to simply disagree, but to disagree with such a level of pure hatred as to attempt to silence someone with a dissenting view or a simple lack of understanding through pure intimidation.
To look back at it now, I just sigh and shake my head, wondering if people are ever going to learn to respect differing views rather than spew hatred and ugliness at each other. Maybe we'd be better people overall if someone simply pulled the plug and made us go out into the real world a touch more often...

Not on the internet, my friend. Not on the internet.
You list the major reasons I don't spend much time in the Campaign or General forums for ME3. I much prefer the Gameplay forum here, there's a lot of good info here and some good people to discuss the game with.
If what people say about a game, or how they say it, bothers you, you should just avoid the forums. Don't let it ruin a game you enjoy. That holds true for any game.
But welcome back to ME3, which is still one of my favorite games ever made. Hope you continue to enjoy it.

I find BSN to be pretty tame compared with other more shadowy servers of the internet, the current board you have posted in, strategy and builds, is one of the last safe havens for logic and reason on the internet. Perhaps that is the reason you have posted such an off topic thread here eh ?
Relevance quips aside, what you say is very true and, while the reddit seems to have cooled down a bit since citadel was released, for the love of god I wish they would just kill /v/ already!
