Why ditch her? I mean on one hand you're aiding Talis and if you don't like her that's a drawback, but on the other hand you get to fire arrows at a stuffy, arrogant Orleasian noble. How often do you get that chance?
Is there any actual reason to play MotA?

You get to fire arrows at said Orlesian noble no matter what.
Personally, though, I find the story a lot more satisfying if you settle on helping her. The ghasts are tough enough without having to fight them minus one party member and you do have that nice cutscene wherein she interrogates (and then kills) a dying Tal-Vashoth. And, as mentioned before, you have to fight Prosper anyways, because the jerk just won't let you go.

Plus you get to make out with her a bit if you played your cards right.

I'd rather make out with a ghast.

So would I, but not because I found Tallis unattractive.

No one liked the way the elves were drawn. Some people don't like Tallis as a character while some fans are jealous of Felicia Day.shrugs. I played MOTA. While ok it wasn't great.
