At least they're not standing behind you with a HV specced out of Nova spamming shockwave the ENTIRE match.

Anyways on topic.
Yeh people not using gear is quite offensive. It is common knowledge that gear can make or break a game. And on Gold, when your teammates are using their consumables, and you don't bother equipping anything, it's insulting. Quite clearly you either don't care enough about the match, or don't think your teammates are worth it.
If you aren't going to contribute, go solo, nobody loves you.

@ OP, I'm really sorry... That was definetly a mistake, I was just expressing my opinions like you did in your OP, so if perhaps I was being too... Um... Hypocritical, my sinceres apologies. And if not, I was just being childish and I'm really sorry if I have offended you or anyone else.
Edit: Messed up post

Gold & up, put on some F***'n gear!
You low N7, level II weapon toting, no skill having, soul suckers!!!
Put on some GD equipment!
*** I was lobby hopping all weekend trying to get a Gold match with anyone with gear. I really don't even care about your N7, challenge points, or banner... I'll still give you a pass if you put on gear!
If you are sitting in the lobby with a green check ready to go with no equipment on Gold and higher difficulty, why do you do it? Then you get in game and suck terribly (you are not that good)... I demand an explanation! WHY?!!!
I, like MegaIllusiveMan, am tired of seeing these threads pop up. However, I give you props for actually wanting an explanation instead of simply saying, "You HAVE to wear gear on Gold! It's the only way we're going to extract..." Here's my explanation:
When I PUG (and it's often), I typically host the game which gives me a slight advantage. Most of the time, I'm playing as a biotic character (on gold). Since I'm relying on biotic explosions, equipment really doesn't do me any good. In case you were unaware, equipment does not affect the power of a BE. Every once in a while, I'll throw on disruptor/incendiary/cryo round 1's just for the little extra explosion.
My typical mindset is to kill the small guys first and leave the bosses for the end. (Bosses seldomly kill you- it's the lil' guys that kill you while you're focused on the boss) With that said, bringing in heavy equipment to kill a marauder makes little sense. The difference in time to kill these peons with equipment vs without is negligible. If a boss enemy absolutely has to be killed, I have my acolyte + hurricane (with HVB / heatsink) to deal with them. IF I need the extra umph behind my shots, I have the natural ability to carry 8 thermal clip packs into the game. Again, if you were unaware, using a thermal clip pack adds a 100% damage boost to your weapons for 10 seconds- more than long enough to drop a boss, especially when combined with BE's.
Lastly, if the game is taking longer than anticipated, I spawn nuke waves 8 and 9 (2 each). Having a gold game last more than 20 minutes is uncalled for and I do my best to ensure that never happens. A typical gold game should only last 15-18 minutes, even with PUGs.
If I believe that I need to strap on my backpack, I'll throw equipment on. If I'm playing Platinum, I'll gladly use some. Otherwise, expect to see me having fun, playing smart, and probably outscoring you without it.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Equipment does not make or break the game. Skill, knowledge, and communication does.
Enough with the "Gear up on GOLD!!!" threads.

Killing things faster is better for the team as whole. Not gearing up (on gold or platinum) is just being selfish or lazy. Silver and bronze, I would agree with you.
Again, BE's do NOT benefit from gear bonuses. Tossing a singularity / shockwave into a spawn = tons of BE's, killing the enemies much faster than using any weapon + gear. Same goes with reave / cluster grenade, etc.
Not gearing up on gold means I have more equipment for doing platinum speed runs. It means I have more equipment to wear when I need to
By your logic (killing things faster = better for the team), you should always be wearing your best equipment, regardless of difficulty. I expect to see you wearing your lvl IV gear in bronze games from now on. Afterall, killing an enemy .2 seconds faster makes the world of difference, right?
A difference of +30 seconds/game from my lack of gear isn't going to kill you.
EDIT
If someone asks me to put on equipment, I happily do. In a PUG match, however, that seldomly happens.

Agree it's a redicilous reason for not using equipment, many biotic and tech powers benefit greatly from equipment, the power itself, not the explosion but every time I throw a biotic power for example doesn't mean the goal is an explosion to that specific enemy, I may be running a kit for example with Warp and have that kit set up so that the team benefits from an enemy with warp on it, i.e. weapon damage.
But cheap is cheap, some simply won't run it, some post on BSN stating they don't need it, I have played with a few and that has not been the case, well unless they were looking to be carried but that is a who other topic

I run to spawns to have max effect with BE's- I shoot my weapon between power cooldowns, which is incredibly short. I rarely take cover as I normally kill enemies before they kill me. Should I die, which happens time to time, I typically rage gel unless a teammate says "I got you". (Afterall, I died and it's my fault I died.) I use ops packs when I need to.
I'm not shy when it comes to using thermals/missiles/ops/gels - ask anyone I play with. At the end of the day, I buy a ton of JEPs and recruit packs to ensure I get the consumables back to 255... It's a weird OCD habit of mine that I can't break, no matter how hard I try.

Bang on ... and this is what annoy's me .. all the people who come here and state they don't need consumables to dominate. In my experience with that, I have seen ZERO people able to back that up ... they all end up at the bottom of the scoreboard while you carry their ass. I'm sure all the best players on here could make that claim, but you'll notice the most skilled players ALWAYS use consumables.
I don't understand the mentality of hoarding consumables anyways ... they're account bound, and if you've been playing the game for any length of time, you will have more that you could ever use up (I know I do)
Not tyring to attack you, but that's the mentality behing all the PUG games i join and no-one uses any consumables

We wouldn't have these topics if equipment wasn't expendable. Then of course everybody would use them. But that's the point - it is expendable and therefor treated special. As if you could ever run out of them if you consistently run gold or even platinum or buy recruit/veteran packs as long you're new to the game. Ever heard of a person that brags how (s)he doesn't need the gear item?P51Mus7ang wrote...

If I'm not relying on BE's, I'll use equipment. 90% of the time, however, I'm playing "BOOM" characters on gold. Weapon chars, I'm using weapon + ammo eq. Vanguards, I'm using incendiary + power amps, etc. Using it for BE chars on Gold feels like a complete waste. If someone requests I wear equipment on a BE char, I'll do it without question, just to make them feel good going into the match. Is it required though? Yes and no. If you haven't been playing long, probably a good idea to wear it. But there is a point where knowledge + skill > equipment.

I'd agree with this.ToYz_R_RusH wrote...

It's always a good idea, for example, to not gear up prior to actually landing in a lobby or else your equipment could be lost if you connect to a game and insta-disconnect (or something similar). I follow this mindset and sometimes land in Gold games with no equipment whatsoever and it really doesn't make that huge of a difference. Does it hurt? Yes, a little. I can't cause as many tech bursts/fire explosions and my shots are a tad weaker. Does it mean I suddenly go down every round and bottom out the scoreboard? Hardly.
Having equipment on Gold is nice, but it's not always a necessity. It's VERY useful if you're a new player, but not EVERYbody needs to equip something on Gold EVERY match.

However, knowledge and skill PLUS equipment make you better than you would have been .. that's a fact.
So while you may easily be experienced and skilled enough not use, you will still perform better using an adrenaline armor mod and warp ammo on your 'boom' kits ...

I use equipment, quite a bit of it. Thanks to the ridiculous number of JEPs and recruit packs I buy, I (as you can see) never run out.
I'm good at the game. Maybe not at the level of players like Disciple (RIP), Caineghis, only1biggs, etc... but I can definitely hold my own. When I choose to not wear equipment, I'm still playing hard. I'm not going to be holding the team back by my lack of equipment. I just want to play with a little more challenge.
I do my best to avoid judging players going into a match. Instead of thinking cynical, I assume players that choose not to wear equipment will be able to hold their own. It's their decision to not wear it- I'm not going to force them to.
Here's where the dilemma comes in... If the game is going smoothly, no worries. I promise you, I'm doing my part. If the game is going horrid, I'm doing more than my part. If I'm wearing full equipment, I feel obligated to finish the match. If I'm naked and its clear everyone is leeching, I can die out without any loss to myself.
I don't mind strapping on a backpack now and then. Having to strap on a truck because I'm wearing full equipment is not my idea of fun.

this is exactly what we are complaining about. Except substitute "it's clear everyone is leaching" with "the match is not going well for me". This is why we want everyone to use consumables on gold.
