I'm alright with this. Which is odd since I hate EA, but I love BioWare and I think Star Wars goes really hand-in-hand with what they do (I loved SWTOR, played all 8 classes). So the potential for BioWare to make some single-player BioWare-stye games is exciting. As is BioWare getting out of their current funk of only doing Mass Effect and Dragon Age stuff ad-nauseum for a decade.

As appealing as a single-player Star Wars game by Bioware sounds, I don't think that's going to happen. Remember this quote from Frank Gibeau?

"We are very proud of the way EA evolved with consumers, I have not green lit one game to be developed as a single player experience. Today, all of our games include online applications and digital services that make them live 24/7/365."

The Madden deal with the NFL was a blessing for all involved. So long as you weren't paying money for Madden games, it was super bad for those people.

Ugh. Dammit, regardless of whether the NFL was the one pushing for exclusivity or not, that deal just sucks to this day. The days when you had 2K and Madden constantly trying to one up each other were outstanding for gamers. That kind of competition was just fantastic.

NFL 2k5 is still the best football game ever made.

Bioware or EA making a star wars game can't be any worse than the products lucas shoved out onto the market in the last few years.

Maybe a real KotOR game? One that I can play on my own and savor at my own pace like an epic novel wrapped in the savory flavor of Star Wars bacon?

No?

Oh... More Old Republic expansions... I see.

Yeah, I hate it when that guy comes over every week and zaps you with a cattle prod to make you play SWTOR faster than you want to and with other people.

Ugh, I hope that doesn't mean Origin exclusive.

Of course not. You're not goint to need Origin if you buy it for consoles.

Don't know what to think about the news. Regardless of the fact that the next Star Wars RPG will be developed in the future by Bioware, I doubt we'll see anything about it in the next two years, since the studios are busy with TOR, DA, ME, and the next IP.

Hand it over to Obsidian, please.

KOTOR 3. I will wish it upon my demise.

The only possibly good thing I see coming out of this is DICE making Battlefront III or some spiritual successor to it.

I'm surprised they signed up with Electronic Arts after The Old Republic sank.

Actually, TOR was ****ed up before EA got its hand on BW.
Don't know why James Ohlen worked with those guys from NGE, who licensed HeroEngine way before it was finished. Anyone who studied computer science 101 would know how hard it is to work with an unfinished engine, without adequate documentation.

Other than that, yes there could have been better decisions, both business wise and game design wise, but nothing as big as what happened back then.

If anything it shows that star wars is an incredibly safe IP to fall back on. Even with everything that happened, it appears that SWTOR is still earning good profits.

Really that's the only thing of real value I can think of. A new KotOR (or even a game that takes place during the NJO) is to much to ask of EA.

Or another X-Wing game for PC.

And I would like to see a Rogue Squadron IV for consoles.

I don't trust EA for this though.

Dice could do it... In theory...

I'm already terrified about what Disney is going to do to the post-Jedi (even pre-Menace and 19 BBY-0 BBY) EU.

It's not like Lucasarts was releasing compelling games in this past 5-8 years.

In the worst case scenario we'll continue on the status quo of SW games.

It was never there in the first place. Obsidian considered making a Star Wars game set between Episode III and IV, not in The Old Republic era.

Technically speaking that would still be dealing with the surviving Jedi Knights of the Old Republic, the Republic just wouldn't be around.

This.. isn't the "new IP" that we've been hearing about it is it? Because it's really going back to an old IP and after the KOTOR era we got ME so.. I'd prefer to see BW working on something of their own creation without being harassed by Lucasarts (or whatever it is now) along the way.

I feel a disturbance in the Force.

I wonder who on earth holds rights to Tie Fighter, X-Wing Alliance,X-Wing. Getting modern versions out of these awesome games would be the best thing ever. Hell, even Gog versions would make me squeeee.
I suppose their rights are pretty integral part of  Lucas Arts' post mortem estate and are thusly buried deep in some incomprehensible lizardman swamp of licenses.(

EA+Lucas+Disney
Good god..some sort of a perfect storm of massively ruthheless western commercialization is forming up. I recon even posting about this is something requiring a micro transaction.

Oh joy, Bioware is now Disney's b!tch.

Wonder how long it'll be before Liara is cartoonified and appearing on Micky Mouse Club and Disney is forcing Bio to censor the trilogy.
