Maybe a real KotOR game? One that I can play on my own and savor at my own pace like an epic novel wrapped in the savory flavor of Star Wars bacon?

No?

Oh... More Old Republic expansions... I see.

Yeah, I hate it when that guy comes over every week and zaps you with a cattle prod to make you play SWTOR faster than you want to and with other people.

You can't play through the story beats without suffering through the standard MMO grindfest of fetch, gathering, or extermination quests.

You can't experience the flashpoints without forming a group, which is time consuming and a huge pain in the ass do to a group finder system that doesn't function correctly. Then when it does the people you end up with don't know wtf they are doing and it all fails horribly.

Thankfully the PVP is enjoyable and I can level up via that, but it still takes FOREVER and eventually starts to get stale.

Oh, but cattle prods and sarcasm and har har haaaaaar!
Cleaver trolls are the best trolls. If you see any Maverick, do send them in.

If BioWare do a KoToR 3 I wonder who they'd have lead write it. Drew no longer works for the company, Gaider is doing Dragon Age, and Mass Effect 3 proved that Mac can't handle the pressure of being lead writer.

They'd need to promote someone up to handle the lead writing of it.

As for if I think the game stands a chance at being good, it will completely depend on how Dragon Age 3 looks. IMO Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 both came out a year too early, but it seems like EA is learning that a RPG can't be flushed out like Call of Duty every year, it takes time to make a good one.

If they allow KoToR to take 3 years or so in development then I think it will end up being a great game, if they want a Star Wars RPG out by Christmas next year, then it will suck.

Well fan favorite vote would probably go to Patrick Weekes.

Though, I have to assume that fan opinion doesn't mean much.

I'm sure there are other writers at Bioware who worked on the original KotOR in some fashion and would love a chance to make a story of their own in the Star Wars Universe.

Patrick is a great choice IMO but unfortunately we don't get to make those choices. As for everyone talking about day 1 dlc I do understand development cycles and see why D1 exists and a way of alleviating the backlash of it is to do what the Total Rome devs are doing and make it free. EA you would be viewed as a changed company maybe even enough not to be voted worst company ever lol but I live in the real world you are a crap company at times but there are much worse out there.

I would personally love to see Rockstar take their magic to the stars.

Holy Jeebus, YES! You have won the internets, ShepnTali!

I could just imagine the next Kotor being something like Red Dead... only with a lot more rpg to it.

Drooooollllll!

I hope they make a new jedi Knight game. That series was great.

At least we may get some average Star Wars games. That's good.

I'm glad that Bioware gets some added protection for TOR with this. I hope that this deal wont throw a wrench into Bioware's current schedual though, thats my only worry. I'm sure Inquisition is more than safe but I could see that new IP or the next Mass Effect getting shelved temporarily if a new Star Wars title looks too shiny. EA has people who are experienced with Star Wars, I'm sure the universe is safe with them. I am disappointed that there are many developers we probably wont be seeing Star Wars games from now. Before this there were plenty of people Disney could offer projects to and with that diversity some pretty interesting titles could have been made.

What bothers me most about the deal is not that EA will develop Star Wars titles, they do have a past with the Star Wars franchise and it's not a terrible one. What bothers me most is that only EA will be able to develop titles.Which means that EA will set the standard for future games, and their standards aren't exactly high at the moment.

To all doubters keep a open mind just think for a minute, it could've been that EA was the only company that was interested in getting the rights to Star Wars. I know a lot of people blame EA for ruining games, for example the current BW games, but try to remember BW did sign on with EA, just like every other developer that signed with them. These developers could've sold to some other big company but they must've seen something positive in EA.

Personally I'd love to keep an open mind. All things considered the three studios listed do some good work. However, with the ME3 fiasco, Dragon Age ][, Dead Space 3 having co-op, and the disaster that was SimCity it is hard to put any faith in this situation. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE for EA to prove me wrong, but recent events have put serious doubts in my mind. I don't play Battlefield, nor have I heard about any complaints so I can't comment on that. I do know that John Riccitiello wanted to charge people for ammo, but I don't know if that ever actually happened.

I want EA to succeed here and produce some quality Star Wars games, but I won't be surprised The Sims 4: Star Wars comes out.

BF3 is a good game, but it's ruined by EA money schemes.  5 DLC packs, with maps that fragment an online community (have and have-nots), microtransactions where you can essentially buy all the unlockable weapons, kits,  vehicles, etc., charging for "premium" website service, etc.  Typical EA greed gone rampant.

No good Kotor game can't have Hk-47 as a Day 1 DLC. A New character maybe, Hk-47 has to be in the Main vanilla game. He is Iconic like Ebon Hawk and T3-M4

Regardless if we get a Remake of Kotor 1 or a Dedicated Kotor 3, good game mechanic, good roleplay flexiblity, good story and Hk-47, T3-M4 and the Ebon Hawk are a must.

Now more then ever I feel like we stand a good chance of getting a Kotor 3 (doesn't necessarily have to be about Revan in my opinion) but I don't want to get my hopes up just encase they get dropped again.

I don't see KOTOR 3 happening. How can it, since after Drew's novel and the fiasco TOR with its storyline? Only by making the events non-canon could it work, and EA will never do something like that.

I can only see a KOTOR game coming out that has nothing in common with the "Old Republic universe" and only slaps the name on their game for money.

I will be very happy to see a RPG that takes place 500~1000 years before or after KOTOR games.
Plus a new Rogue Squadron, a new Jedi Knight and Battlefront.

I do have ideas that it would retcon it sensibly and plenty of Kyle Katarn joke along the way.

This is what is going to happen...

Dice - Does "Battlefield" Star Wars
Visceral does either Dark Forces or Jedi Knight

EA then contracts out a single player RPG to Obsidian (Based on the pitch that Obsidian shopped to Disney). Why is EA going to do that?

1. EA knows it needs good PR, and to win back the fans. Obsidian has a lot of influence with a significant group of people.
2. Bioware is busy with DA3, ME4, and TOR.
3. Brian Fargo has a lot of influence at EA, and favors Obsidian. He can push Obsidian's pitch.

You can see EA starting to walk back some of the previous CEO's mantras already, they made an explicit statement that Sims 4 will not require an internet connection, and is single player only, walking back two of the previous CEO's big things, as well as explicitly stating that DRM is ineffective. I suspect we'll see this more frequently in the near future.

Obsidian is pretty busy with South Park, Project Eternity and some third next gene game. Would they even have the resources to make a Star Wars game? Not for a while, probably.

But as far as we know, they're finishing the work on South Park. That's why they pitched their idea of a new Star Wars game to Disney earlier this year: they need to start pre-production on something new (only a fraction of the team at Obsidian is working on PE after all) :)

I really hope that EA will give Obsidian the chance to prove themselves again with this universe.
