You can't play through the story beats without suffering through the standard MMO grindfest of fetch, gathering, or extermination quests.

Yes you can.  I leveled solely through class and world missions and PvP.

You can't experience the flashpoints without forming a group, which is time consuming and a huge pain in the ass do to a group finder system that doesn't function correctly. Then when it does the people you end up with don't know wtf they are doing and it all fails horribly.

Go back and do the lower level flashpoints solo when you're 10+ levels higher than them.

I never had a problem with the group finder when I had to use it.  Are you sure you're doing it right?

I only care about Obsidian's kickstarter projects myself, but if it helps them pay the bills and leads to more traditonal style rpgs, via kickstarter say, then good.

This was just Star Wars, correct? Any chance EA also has gained some of LucasArts non-Star Wars work out of the deal or are those still in Disneys hands for now?

Well, it's not that bad. I can think of much worse things that can come to star wars, since it's Disney and supposed to be very kids friendly. For example, focus solely on things like star wars dance game, angry birds star wars and etc.

That being said, I am sometimes an MMO fan and I should probably quit hoping for an MMO that is better or different from TOR because it doesn't make much sense for EA to compete with itself. Sandbox elements and fully customizable ship? ... Probably not gonna happen.

You know its quite possible that we will never get a good gritty Star Wars game again.

Remember, disney's original plan was to make nothing but mobile phone games.

I will take EA, than angry birds star wars anytime.

I think a gritty Star Wars game defeats the purpose of the setting.

I dunno the force unleashed 1 and 2 where pretty dark and gritty as was KOTOR, they deal with some prety adult themes.

If that means Bioware can create more Star Wars RPG games, then I'm more than happy.

I'm for a Star Wars game that can balance grit and light-hearted theme it usually has. A game revolving around Order 66 is on my wish list.

Nothing says light hearted like mass slaughter.

I have no interest in playing in the movie universe. I like KotOR because it can be it's own story without having to be wedged between the films continuity.

This would be great but Obsidian can keep dreaming, IMO. It would be nice to see them get redemption after that  rush job that was the end of KOTOR 2. That game did a lot better than KOTOR  until the second half of the game ended up so sloppy.

I highly doubt EA is going to let Obsidian interfere with a studio project like this unless they sell themselves off to EA. Bioware isn't a small studio that needs to collaborate on anything anymore. Much less take the risk of an outside studio like Obsidian to interfere with whatever philosophy they already have for the game. Thanks but no thanks?

Being realistic here too, Obsidian isn't known for making the most polished products either. While I like most of their games, they're usually riddled with bugs and lack any gameplay polish. It's usually their narrative that draws me into their games and that's about it. Purely from an outside perspective like mine, Obsidian has bad studio management. It seems like all their projects end up getting rushed because they can't deal with corporate deadlines. They should just stick to Kickstarter where I'm sure they'll be fantastic and can do things on their own deadlines.

On the subject of Bioware's SW, I'm hoping it's a slightly different take on Star Wars. A little more mature and possibly a darker look would be great in my book. If it's like KOTOR, I'm fine by that too.

Light-hearted mass slaughter seems to be a passtime in most media.

I like both KOTOR and the time taking place between the movies, and just tend to find post-Order 66 to be the most interesting event. What I would really like to see is a game taking place in the Legacy era if you're familiar with it. It's not wedged between the movies...yet.
