IMO, the Community, although the smallest its ever been, is probably the greatest its ever been. As Baba points out, all the teenies that made nude mods and porn adventures the top downloads for so many years are long gone. What's left is the cream of the crop and it shows in the quality of content that has been produced in the last few years.

Just to clear something up before i´m misunderstood. I like a few sexy clothings for females/ prostitutes in nwn too (because there it makes sense...) but the retextures of a retexture of a hairy lovespot is just not my thing.

What i really really like are the romantic (and porn) animations that are unique and perfectly executed also so i´m not against the adult stuff in general... heh i like gore that is somewhat realistic and sad/brutal storys and sex has a place in an adventure too ;)

The perfect balance of all these things i only know from the movie "the name of the rose" where everything was exactly how life was in a medieval time how i imagine it. Nothing added just to give the audience a boob or ripped up bodys...

What Rolo Kipp (and a few others) said.

There is a niche filled by NWN and this game would only be replaced by something that does all the same things only better and is just as (if not more) user-friendly.

Since, as some people said, there is fat chance of something like that coming out any time soon, we'll be fiddling with this 'ancient' for some while yet. And probably having a good deal of fun in the process. :]

I agree that sexy outfits and occasional nudity make sense. What I was referring to were modules where the main objective is to "get some". Its pretty sad when a piece of tail is worth more XP than a Balor.

Honestly as much as I love nwn, a spiritual succesor needs to enter the new decade, I actually get somewhat depressed when I enter the game to the same manu screen that I witnessesd endlessly in my mid-teens, now being in my mid twenties the nostalgia is nice, but it's hard to have the nostalgia of the nostalgia, it just becomes depressing at some point. I want to create memories not be endlessly reminded of them...

Seems terribly sad that so many stars need to align for something like this to come around again. I guess we could only be glad that one came around at ALL.

<spinning...>

Cultivating the pathways of gratitude always yields greater joy in the long run :-)
OTOH, keeping the goal of improving things always in mind (as we do) does constantly move this community forward.
Both Nwn1 & 2 have improved (are improving) immensely, and there's some major things in the works.
It's just not going to happen quickly :-P
Er, "patience young grasshopper" =)
(Edit: or get out of the car and help push ;-)

Problem why nwn by default looks so dated is simply the bad design by bioware. The textures and models are just bad... take the "hands" as an example and then move on to the terrible city exterior tileset, the weapons with their "not textured" at all etc. I can count endless things that are horrible now to look at. Even custom halflife map designers at that time made the bio guys look like amateurs...

Anyway we can do graphically everything we want except having good shadows or an appropriate exterior lighting. But that aside with patience and love for the details we know what codi was able to create back in 2006 or even earlier. Somehow their style and knowledge got lost but we´re definately on the right track since a good amount of time and nwn never looked so good imo... to bad not in every section... bodyparts/ armory comes to mind. But tilesets, placeables, creatures, the ccc stuff and the new weapons by AD are all worth to call everything together a nwn 1.9+ or so ;)

It won't last forever but for the time being it's the best tool we've got. Small but devoted community > large but useless one. I wish I'd been around to release modules in the glory days, though...

Actually I rather like the idea of putting together an unofficial patch with the sole purpose of improving the graphics. I don't really worry about graphics. NWN's default graphics don't really bother me that much (except the orcs... bleah) but I also realize that most people disagree. If someone could mesh all the graphical improvements (textures, reskins, improved models, roofs, etc) into one download it would actually help the game keep going for a while longer.
