Why did people *cry* over DA2's violence?

I hope to the holy flying spaghetti they bring it back for DA3.
Am I the only one who thought exploding/lacerated corpses was BAD***. It made you feel powerful and was especially appropriate for mages. Chain light, Hemorrhage, Stonefist if I want to waste some of these spells on the typical baddy I want them to go down HARD. Especially for CCC c'mon! The effect is a reflection of my power output no?
Maybe these gruesome endings could be reserved for mid/endgame when you've settled into your build, but I'm sorry all the expendable baddies should come out of these fights completely broken, physically and emotionally and it should be depicted as such.
If anything I want MORE violence. I'm a sadist what can I say, I suspect some of you are too, I mean one aspect of this violence is trademark, the persistent gore. As gimmicky and misplaced as it can be sometimes it's still a cool distinctive feature of the series. I'd like to see BW escalate this. For instance, assuming they bring back Spell Combos ( this is top of my wishlist ), if I toss out a sleep/horror my victims should literally be screaming bloody murder, ripping their faces off. A cleave from a warrior should remove specific body parts, considering hit placement. How awesome would it be to see a bunch of limbless, staggered idiots pace around before they drop?
Some may not agree, I don't know why as long as all the favored combat elements are still present, and to you I say can we meet eachother in the middle? If you're so offended maybe BW can concede to make a toggle option for such effects.
Anyway, just personally looking forward to more intense combat.

I don't recall anyone "crying" about the violence in Dragon Age II. Most of the complaints leaned more towards the fact that the fighting didn't require much thought in defeating enemies, especially with some foes parachuting from thin air.

and from a sadist pov, i think feeling a satisfying, weighted slice with a battle axe is infinitely mroe satisfying than throwing it around like its nothing

Look at Tomb Raider, there was a lot of violence, but the really brutal moments were reserved for finishers and for our own deaths. I really liked it that way, as the latter encouraged us to think a little harder about what we were doing to avoid a truly terribly death.
In Neverwinter Nights, there was a gore toggle. Having one would be welcome, but at the same time I don't think Bioware will want to essentially fetishise violence. I would like them to encourage us to think about what we are doing.
If we kill someone horribly, perhaps with a combo - they should scream. They should scream for the people they are leaving behind, and we should hear their death rattle as we walk past them. Perhaps have a few moments of having to mercy kill the mooks we've mown down. I want to remember that these are essentially people. I want my character to reflect on the death they've left in their wake.

There was an entire thread about it, and Bioware literally removed the element all but entirely as a result of it!
And if anything the randomly generated enemies were necessary for that kind of constrained level design, added to strategy too IMO.
And I can think of atleast a few bosses that were a complete pain on hard. They needed more enemy mages who could cast AOE I think.

Do you have actual proof of this? I never heard of anyone complaining about the violence and gore. I saw plenty of complaints about enemies constantly exploding from being stabbed with a sword or clubbed with a staff, not because of an aversion to violence but because it happened so often it went straight from being comical to outright ludicrous.
I DON'T personally want to see a lot of excessive gore, but it has nothing to do with finding it offensive; I just don't care to see excessively graphic violence--especially not constantly. There just isn't any need for it.

As for people crying over the violence, they did that?
I remember people saying to tone it the hell down on the gibbing because stabbing someone only for them to explode is ridiculous.
That I agree with- DA2 went overboard on the body explosions and such. I played an archer and my arrows were frequently blowing people up, which was odd.

1. A lot of players/reviewers whined about it (cool story bro, want a G rated fantasy world play WoW? ( Sorry had to be insulting, it made the combat more boring, and I only noticed because I patched to play MoTA and Legacy and was like what the hell?
2. A bug? REALLY? Because it was that unnoticeable in play testing? Lol, well glitch or not I thought it enhanced the combat. Just seems like a convenient explanation to appease.
One more note, enjoying the visual splendor of over the top violence does not mean I want a mindless hack and slash experience. But two of my favorite games this generation are Ninja Gaiden 2 ( loved the original too ) and Gears of War 1 and 3 ( for multiplayer )

That's something that I enjoyed with Guild Wars 2, and would love to see in a DA game. If you killed somebody with a fire spell for example, they caught on fire, and screamed and flailed their arms as they died burning. It was a nice touch, and actually made me feel kinda bad.

Lets think about which seems more likely:
1. They wanted bodies to explode like pinatas whenever you hit them with the slightest amount of damage.
or
2. They wanted bodies to explode only when killing them with massive amounts of excess damage.
The effect was meant to show off a spectacular kill, not an average one. It loses any meaning when it happens on every kill. That was the bug. The frequency.

That's why I said it could be reserved for when your builds settles. And like I said, it was obviously intentional. The effect was blatant, they knew it's not like it was very subtle.
And most people settle in to powerful builds quickly, but yea the low level/health scatter brains (in proportion to your PC) should always go down that way. To me anyway.
For archers who we're annoyed by it, yea I can see it being annoying for your auto attacks but in reading the description/ assigning some of the heavy hitting abilities to Varric/Sebastian I expected those attacks to produce something to the effect of getting hit by a high caliber bullet haha. Have you seen a 700 grain M500 round hit a watermelon...oh boy
