Why did people *cry* over DA2's violence?

The speed, lights, and sound effects seem like they belong in some sci fi or modern warfare game, not Fantasy Medieval Europe (where the fastest thing people should deal with is messengers on galloping horses). I once walked into the room while my friends were playing without my glasses, and I honestly thought they were playing some sort of sci fi shooter or modern warfare game.
The mood is always slow and rollicking until combat, in which case it suddenly becomes OMFG FAST! BLAST BLAST BLASH! PEW PEW PEW! BLAST BASH CRASH CRACK BLAST GATTA GATTA GATTA BOOM BANG BLAST PEW!! ... And then it's back to being slow and rollicking again.
It breaks immersion for me every time.

I also have to agree w/ Faerunner that the over the top, "button = awesome" pacing doesn't fit the mood of tha game. Not to mention that it's also nauseatingly repetative.

The DA:O finishers were pretty satisfying to me. Removing that in DA2 did make me die a little inside.
Same.
And I wish archers would get archery-specific finishers for once.

-Look realistically combat doesn't operate at that pace, in Origins you left a friggin' snail trail behind you anytime you wanted to get into position or attack. It's an odd preference to have, but you guys should understand I've mainly only gotten into newer rpgs. The first one I ever played was morrowind, or Zelda lol.
-Mages should be animate and the basic strikes made sense, you would cast from either ends of your staff, QUICKLY ( duh dudes are trying to kill you ), and setup for a more powerful hit. Spellcasting was overall much better you're mentally challenged if you think otherwise ( UGH just remembering that stupid effeminate process to get storm of the century going )
-Rogues are intended to operate quickly, silently, and explosively. They do just that, atleast you get a greater sense of that role with the movements. Or you can get your polite jog on and circle strafe hoping to land a backstab. Origins movements we're especially dumb for this class
Warriors....who cares about those guys anyway

The battle/combat effects don't bother me, what bothers me is is Hawke goes on about trying to help people when he/she goes around and kills about 50 guys with no remorse. It's a little hypocritical.
Do you want to play "Dragon Age 3: Humanitarian Effort" instead?

Think of it this way. If the game had been a blockbuster success, they would not be changing it. The fact is they are. They already stated it in a past thread. There will be a return to tactics.
How is this challenging combat?

Contrary to a game like Skyrim, where I'd love some more varied death animations. As a two-handed warrior, once you get powerful enough, you can kill almost anything with a single strike - wouldn't it be freaking awesome to just slice the NPCs in half with that one strike? Sorry, my thoughts were wandering off - I can totally understand the thought, but in DA I just don't immerse myself into my character while in combat.

Adding the fact that the Magic attribute had a much lower role in determining your spell damage than in DAO and mainly increased auto-attack potency (and magic resistance), it's like Bioware tried to turn mages into auto-attackers. Which is stupid. A mage should only ever auto-attack when he's out of mana and the fight isn't worth a Lyrium potion (or he's an Arcane warrior - another thing DA2 took away).
Also, spell combos that take some creativity. Gone in DA2.
There are many, many reasons why one would find DAO's mages superior to DA2. Imo, the only thing in which DA2's mages beat DAO's mages is that they look flashier in combat. Which I could live without.

Tactics existed in DAII? Unless you mean "tactical combat".

How isn't it? Sure, it looks stupid, but what a ludicrous idea: that you could screencap combat and prove that it's not tactical. Screencap. Combat.

Its not tactical combat. They materialize out of nowhere thus ruining immersion. Like I said, if the game was successful they would not have said combat would be different for the next game.
I certainly don't expect it will be like Origins but its not going to be over the top ridiculous and dumbed down like DA2s.
DA3 will have its own style of combat. And I am looking forward to it.

It definitely lacked in the tactical area, especially with how comically fast auto attacks were in DA2. Rogues being able to teleport around the battlefield just turned them into a lazy class. No need for tactical maneuvering when you can just poof like a ninja in some Japanese B movie. I do miss the finishing moves from DA:O too...and the injuries.
I think they designed the combat for people who basically want a cinematic experience and dont like games.

"Immeeeeerzzion" doesn't have a darn thing to do with tactics.
DA ][ was plenty tactical. Differently so than Origins, but definitely tactical. Just try to solely spam auto-attack while that mage casts that bizarre glowing white orb that kills your party in about two seconds.
