"This book really gets you thinking about the Indoctrination Theory of the video game Mass Effect 3. At first I had just read short articles about this theory on the internet and I had dismissed them after Bioware made a public statement indicating that the ending is what it is and its not going to change. I had come to accept that, until I read this book. The evidence put forward in this book really gets you thinking and to be honest it makes a very, very strong case in the Indoctrination Theories favour. All will be revealed in Mass Effect 3's last DLC which is due to be released very soon.

I would highly recommend this book to all Mass Effect fan's. Its a really interesting read."

This is a blast from the past

The Fair Use doctrine would apply.

Not to the names, titles and images of Mass Effect. Those are copyrighted.

Everything else, such as describing the events of a game and/or writing a fan-fic about it (like the IT) is fair game.

People are allowed to comment on copyrighted material, and fair use covers using small samples of the original work as reference.  Fair use is violated only when the original material is referenced so often the majority of the work is not original.

Trademark violation is a separate issue, but only comes into play when the use of trademarked images is used to confuse the origin of the material or to dilute the value of the trademark.

Don't like IT?  No problem.  Accusing the author of copyright violation?  Hyperbole.

Hm, Well I don't see why BioWare would sue him. There are books discussing theories on the Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and even books discussing popular sci-fi films. They aren't getting sued nor do I think you need permission just to publish a book that speaks about these topics. Now if he was writing a story about Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect verse, and titled it Mass Effect he could be sued. But he's writing about a fan based theory like all the other books out there so I don't see why Bioware would stop him.

Although, I think he would be better off writing a fictional sci-fi story similar to Mass Effect but add the IT theory into the story himself at least he won't have zealous anti IT folks review trolling him.

It'd be nice to have someone from Bioware comment on this.

Looks like an analytical piece. That is not grounds for being sued on as there is plenty books like this on other books and movies.

You have to be f***ing kidding me!!!

EDIT: We can get paid by selling stuff we post on the BSN?!?!?

Actually if I was a firm ITer I would totally check to see if any of my own ideas were presented in this without properly citing me and giving me credit.

That's some actual grounds for sueing. :P

Names and titles? So someone could only publish a book of film criticism if he didn't mention the films' titles or the names of any characters? I can see being wrong about the images, but that's just silly.

Even if you're a fan of IT, you shouldn't buy this book. All the information in there is probably already offered for free on Youtube.

Just sayin'.

Oh dear.

I don't know what's worse, that someone is trying to cash in on this (albeit about a year too late), or that someone was sincere enough to publish this.

I think you all over reacting. I know some of you already know I am an ITer, but heck nobody expected this. Look you don't have to buy it, nor read it. I am not because I already know much about IT, however I don't hate the book. For christ sake you are acting like somebody punched your mothers. It's a book that explains IT, and nothing more. So either shut up and move on, or shut up and leave it at that.

And for the record I bet over half of you don't know anything about IT. Most of you just go with the flow and hate something that has nothing against you. Besides don't you have more things to do then laugh and ****** on IT? If you don't I clearly understand, but really as yourself who it the better people here. If you say you, then why? If you have an answer, then what do I gain from this! If you already know why, then why ask yourself is it worth it, since non of it matter anymore?

I do know about IT, so nice try. It's a joke of a book and deserves to be made fun of. It's a waste of paper.

@masster blaster

Because the seller is trying to make profit off of a fan made interpretation, one that he probably didn't even help develop himself.

It's stupid and you shouldn't defend it if you care about making yourself look like a credible conspirator.

Look at that poor lady over there being robbed. But hey, it's not you being robbed, so why should you care?

...

Maybe because it's still a crime that's going down right in front of your eyes?

That person is using copyrighted material to earn money. He's plagiarizing thoughts that are not his own and publicly available for free, again to earn money.

No matter how much you or anyone else might want to ignore that fact, it is against the law.

Wow, dude is 16. It would be illegal for him to play ME3 here.

Isn't it kinda low to pick on a kid though? Wishing a giant corporation sued him and ruined his life and so on... I mean, is that who you want to be?

I totally see your point, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think anyone has wished for a law-suit.

Some have pointed out that it might be illegal, but I've seen nothing about wishes.

Also: It's a book about Mass Effect. Obviously BSN will pick this up. And obviously, there will be flame.
