Was just messing around in some gold games.
Had one lobby with 2 juggernauts and they wanted to kick the 4th guy every time because they wouldn't switch to an AIU. I mean really...wtf.
Joined another lobby with you bet...2 more juggs. As soon as I joined they said they said they were switching it to Platinum be I joined. I left.
Finally got a normal gold game...cerberus/haz glacier. I finsihed with 175k points, I only nuked one spawn because someone else did and it forced the spawn where I was. One person quit after wave 6...he had about 8k points. The other two guys were dropping dead the rest of the game every wave but still managed about 60k each. Wasn't a great game but it wasn't awful either. pugs...luck of the draw.
The two juggs kicking for players not picking certain characters is insane...stupidity at its finest.

Cool story, and everything.
But how does this relate to the thread?

Ugh.
I guess I might as well head back to Silver. By all the measures given here that provide an actual score, I suck. I will typically score 50-60K in a Gold PUG and if I'm having a good match, maybe push 70K.
My manifest doesn't let me get many kills, and my kits generally are built for defense to let me stay alive and avoid spending the match being revived/bleeding out. I usually get the silver/gold assist medal, but rarely the kill medals. Other (more experienced) players get to the spawns first, and I will often go entire waves killing one or two enemies.
Well, when I say that if someone is scoring at least 70,000, that I'm happy to have them, that doesn't necessarily mean I am unhappy to have someone who scores lower than that as long as they are on their feet and not leaving me to do everything by myself every single wave.
Unfortunately, in my own experience, those scoring roughly 50,000 or less also spent most of the game facedown on the floor in spectator mode. Now, if that happens for a wave or two, okay, so be it. But when it starts happening almost every single wave in the later stages of a Gold match, I actually start getting physically tired. Because I don't like soloing, and matches like that aren't really matches, they're glorified solos.
So, I guess my main gripe really is with people who can't stop dying 8,000 times a game, not so much score. Just that those who die so much also tend to score very little, so in that case the two go hand-in-hand. If you score "low", but you don't force me to have a backpack filled with three people to carry completely alone, then I'm not bothered with score.
I understand that completely. Having been one of those "go down multiple times in 5 different waves" I have a lot of sensitivity toward not being a burden on my teammates. That is a reason why I am specifically playing more cautiously. But the trade off with caution is that players who are more aggressive will score much higher. That is just the fact of the scoring system, it rewards an agressive playstyle, if you can keep from dying.
It also has to do with how long you've been playing, too, I think. You're relatively new still, making the Silver to Gold jump, yes? I've been playing since March 2012, but don't think for a moment that I wasn't a very cautious/non-aggressive player once. I've actually only really started lighting up Gold PUG scoreboards in the last 2 to 3 months, and that's simply because I've played so much and for so long now that spawn locations are becoming second nature and muscle memory has gotten better about knowing how far I can push myself and my shield gate/health gate limits (and I still screw up, I'm definitely not saying I'm a Goddess on this game, LOL).
Eventually, in time, you will naturally start playing more aggressively as you subconsciously get better at the not dying part (and more importantly, the not worrying about not dying part because you know your limits and how far you can ride them). Took me a long while.
And I don't mind PUGs that are going through that and learning that. I'd love to play with MORE PUGs that have your mindset of things. YOU are one of the "good guys", as I've said before in one of your threads. You use equipment, you help with objectives, you try to be aware of everything around you. Unfortunately, a lot of the folks in Gold PUGs lately don't bother with equipment, don't use a medigel EVER for any reason whatsoever, and just flat out don't get it. When I moved up from Bronze to Silver and got my butt beat to hell and back, I realized I wasn't ready yet and went back to Bronze for a while with my tail between my legs... practiced... got better... tried again and didn't suck so bad on Silver. Rinse and repeat for Gold and Plat. But it's like the folks I've been running into lately, they either don't realize there are lower difficulty levels or they just don't care. They have zero shame.

Last...I posted a score from a gold game where I had 100k more than everyone else playing. So again...the thread is what is considered a bad score...eclipsing someone else by 100k....pretty sad in my book.

You just described yourself as a better player than 90% of PuGs. At least, by XBL standards, I can't speak for PC.

The other 2 member of our party got to split the remaining 75K

Nah, don't feel bad. That's just the TMB Effect.

I cant remember what he was doing. But, I gotta figure if he just blind chucked a grenade or spun in a circle firing his gun, he would have had a better score than this.Flies_by_Handles wrote...

Oh wow, was that player in the bathroom through much of the first half, or something?
I know some players out there have a big open-door policy for Gold/Platinum games, but there's a time when it must be said that a player learns more from actually playing rather than laying on the ground bleeding out most of the time--watching others play the game for them.
