So I intend to do a engineer  singleplayer run, does the freeze combo work properly? Or would I be better off with armor damage?

I think Freeze Combo works, but you are still better off with Armor Damage.

If you are looking for a good single player Engineer build, I recommend:

Overload: Damage, Neural Shock, Shield Damage
Incinerate: Damage, Burning Damage, Armor Damage
Sabotage: Damage, Explosive Hack, Tech Vulnerability
Tech Mastery: Power Damage, Damage and Capacity, Power Mastery
Fitness: Durability, Shield Recharge, Fitness Expert
1 point in Combat Drone for the occasional Guardian.
Everything else is a point sink and not needed.

For a bonus power I recommend Fortification specced for Durability, Power Damage, Durability. Barrier and Defense Matrix are also decent choices since their rank 5 Power Damage evolutions will also increase the damage of your tech powers.
AP Ammo is another decent choice.

I recommend getting Sabotage to Tech Vulnerability as soon as possible. If you are importing a level 30 Shepard from ME2, then this is no problem. I recommend reset your ME2 Shepard's powers so you start ME3 with 0 points. It makes it easier to spec in ME3.

For build priorities, I recommend:
1) At least 1 in Overload, Incinerate, and Sabotage. 1 point in Combat Drone is good too and all you need.
2) Max Sabotage
3) Max Overload
4) Max Incinerate
5) Max Tech Mastery
6) If taking Fortification/Barrier/Defense Matrix, max it.
7) Max Fitness.
8) If taking AP Ammo, max it.

If you take a shield power as your bonus power and spec it for max duability, your cooldowns will be around 3 seconds as long as your weapon weight is +200%. This is enough time to detonate combos. Your main combo should be Sabotage > Overload.

If you have the Citadel DLC, you can access power damage mods for pistols and SMGs starting after the Citadel Coup mission. These will also increase your power damage. The Engineer tends to rely more on power damage than the Adept or Sentinel, which rely more on biotic detonation damage. Power damage armor and Intel bonuses also help.

This is how I play this type of Engineer.

Hope that helps.

If there were individual cooldowns as in ME1 then Freeze Combo would be better. If you want to play a Cryo Engineer then Freeze Combo would be better. If any other case, it makes more sense not to spec Cryo and go Armor on Incinerate, as Red said.
