Hi, does anyone know the total amount of talent points the main character should have at lvl 24 WITHOUT using any of the tomes?

Much appreciated!

How do you get 29? My math looks something like this:

2 at Character Creation

23 Level ups with 1 point each

2 extra Talents (one at the Joining, one for becoming Champion of Redcliffe)

That's 27, not 29.

At level 24 with no tomes there are 29 talent points but some require specific plot actions and one is pre-selected at character creation based on class.

3 are available at character creation, one is pre-selected
23 are available via leveling, one per level up to level 24
3 are earned at specific points in the plot, one for becoming a grey warden, one can be earned by making a deal with connor's demon, and one is earned for restoring arl eamon with the sacred ashes.

There are also a possible 4 talent/spell tomes as well.

I see. Thanks for the clarification. I failed to count the pre-selected one at CC, and I never deal with the Desire Demon, so that one slipped my mind as well.

Oh come now, you haven't played an evil character yet?  Do it, it's fun!

Even as a good character it's possible to force the demon to give you a talent point AND leave with enough persuasion.

I would like to add that PC has to be a mage for that extra demon talent. If PC is a warrior/rogue, no deal. (Unless there is some way for the mage companion to get the talent for the PC, which means I have missed out on and would gladly know the method of doing so)

So it's really 28?

I am a warrior.

I'm pretty sure my warrior got 3 plot-based bonus talents on my last playthrough. One for becoming a Warden, one for Healing Eamon and one more after the Landsmeet.

He was 23 a the end of the game and had 31 talents. Subtract the 3 buyable +talent books and he would have 28 talents at level 23, meaning 29 at level 24.

And as a warrior, he obviously did NOT get the bonus talent from the demon in Redcliff.

Actually sense you could level up as much as you want there isn't a limit.  That's if you wanna use the xp exploit/bug.

Personally I don't use it, but it could be done.

Even with exploits there is a level cap of 25.

Oh, I thought I read somewhere that there wasn't.  I I still haven't gotten near the mid 20s.  Currentyl I'm at 20 and I'm about to fight the darkspawn so I'd think may 21 or 22 will be the highest.

3 from character creation (1 pre-selected, as tetracyloide said)
24 from leveling to 25
3 from plot points
5 from tomes if you're a Mage (4 if Warrior/Rogue)

Including tomes, total is 35 for Mage, 34 for Warrior/Rogue

Currently there is a bug (if you can call it a bug) where Bodahn at Party Camp refreshes his stock after your initial talk with him at Lothering. You have to sell almost everything you have beforehand to be able to afford one of the books after leaving Lothering (and you likely need to be a Dwarf Noble with 28 gold to afford both).

As for getting to Level 25 before the Archdemon, this is a good time for me to plug my guide:

Yea your guide was good. But I really couldn't go through all that to get to 25. Me thinks 24 is roughly the same. But it's an amazing achievement for you nonetheless!

It's probably not worthwhile to try as a Warrior, due to the disadvantage of being unable to pick a whole bunch of locks throughout the game and the origin stories not giving enough XP.

Dwarf Noble is weird for giving one of the least amounts of XP, even though it's one of the longest (and the five Proving Grounds fights are awesome).

Champion of the Redcliffe awarded my rogue skill instead of talent.

Every tome Bodahn sells is available elsewhere. My understanding was also that each tome can only be used once, regardless of where it's bought.

Just finished a game.  I was Human Mage.

lvl 21 - 31 Spells (Talent Points), 2 were from Warden's Peak and I think I bought every tome possible for spells only.
