Why is the Claymore so overhyped?

Probably not even in the top three shotguns, much less a top ten weapon. It once was the best in the game when shieldgating was problematic for SRs and there wasn't as many great weapons out there.

I don't think it's overhyped. I'm hearing more about the Harrier (lolcarrier), the CSMG and the Javelin nowadays. That or the Wraith/Reegar.

Claymore is still a damn good shotgun though.

The Wraith is better anyway.

The Dark Lord Reegar, Wraith, Crusaider are all better shotguns. I guess the Claymore is alright on a Drellguard.

Probably because with mods and ammo can almost bodyshot every mook on Gold, I think.
Good for people who can't* or are too lazy to aim. There are other weapons that can one shot kill every mook on gold, but a headshot is required, while the Claymore just requires that all the 8 pellets hit.

*lack of skill or lack of time (marauder behind corner)

That's just it, you can pretty much do that with several other weapons but they require you to aim. I mean sure a claymore shot absoultely obliterates a mook along with the other mook standing behind him but most shots are just overkill on infantry.

Twigman actually brought this up last night when we were playing. It seems that console players tend to gravitate more toward the Wraith, while the PC players tend to side with the Claymore. I imagine that the easier reload-cancelling on PC helps quite a bit.

I personally prefer the Wraith, but I'll admit that the Claymore is far more satisfying to use.

Never used it. Haven't liked it since ME2 and still don't.

I like it, but don't slap it on everything. Outside of friends, I never see anyone actually use it. The hype might come from the PC side (not trying to start a war btw).

I used it on the GI for a long time but there are better options now.

I think it's second only to the Reegar. I greatly prefer it over the Wraith personally... and I'm talking about performance... nevermind the fact that it has absolutely fantastic feel. I can reload cancel it as good as anyone on PC... but with the Wraith, I am saddled with that damn refire delay before I can reload/fire the second shot.

If we're talking about great shotguns... I'd be talking about Reegar, Claymore and Venom personally...

Well you need to l2p!

But, seriously I mainly only like it on the human soldier and the Quarian marksman!

It's pretty good when you can consistently double tap stuff or triple tap it if need be.

Seriously dude, you are going to have to teach me how to use it.  I just cannot seem to get it down.  :(

And I feel ya on the refire delay.  It's relay noticeable when you play with a Raider then switch over to the Wraith.

I've had the pleasure of witnessing that.
