Not really. We will go directly from having a machine-sort-of-butler, that is extremely confusing and difficult to configure and program correctly, to being purchased as pets by machine masters.
We write 2014, ...so, why don't cars fly and use water for fuel?

If the Earth stopped spinning suddenly, the atmosphere would still be in motion with the Earth's original 1100 mile per hour rotation speed at the equator. All of the land masses would be scoured clean of anything not attached to bedrock.
