So, how many of you would *not* like a multiplayer component to DA3?
Multiplayer robs time, resources, and money that would be better spent adding more and better content to the single player experience.
The DA series has been and should remain focused on immersive story-telling and deep characters, and no matter how the game eventually turns out, its quality would have been better had (a substantial) portion of the budget not been spent on multiplayer.
I am not naiive, and know that there is a greater than 90% chance that a multiplayer component reminiscient of Mass Effect's will be present in this game regardless, but I'm curious to see how many of you would not like to see it at all.
If it simply must be present, I would hope that it does not affect the single player experience in any way.
No multiplayer in DA3

And what makes you say the money wouldn't have gone to the singleplayer?
It's a hypothesis, much like yours.
I will note that, due to the way iterations work in game design, if something organic comes out as a gameplay element, regardless of what that component is, it is possible to secure additional funding if you can provide a business case that convinces people to allocate additional funding. Whatever that feature may be.

Sigh
I should have known Allan wouldn't be allowed to answer my question.
I have literally just clicked on this thread for the first time since I posted, and this is what I see (quoted via Jimmy at first since his was the last post).
Reasons why: I had a talk with my lead, dealt with some personal paperwork for a benefits claim, and went down to the local pub to get some food before my PnP game today. As I am eating, I decided to bounce back onto the forums.
I have since read through the rest of the thread. Hoorayforicecream pretty much answers the post. Specificlaly for DA3, I couldn't answer because I don't actually know the financial breakdowns or the details of the pitch/greenlight process.
I am saying, though, that if Aaryn and Mark were to go to EA executives and say "We think that adding Feature X will cost us about $10 million, but gain us about $100 million in revenues," unless the EA execs disagree, we'll probably get an extra $10 million. Even if that feature was just a Nug Storm minigame. I mean, we have all these unique requests for moar nugs.
Having attempted to answer your question, however, I have to say it was in an attempt to defend myself against any insinuation that I wasn't "allowed" to answer, I will say that acting like that WILL cause me to hesitate answering questions from you in the future. That is what it is, at this point. No one likes feeling pressured into giving answers. Sorry.
